Why Give Up?

Hello dear readers on this beautiful, sunny spring day. It’s one of those days I would love to just sit out on the deck with my chipmunks, squirrels and birds.  And just relax.  Enjoy that sunshine warming me thoroughly.  Maybe later.  But as my title says, I’m giving up.  That’s right.  Things are just too hard.  My goals are too difficult to obtain.  My dreams are, well, absolutely impossible to realize.  Nothing works out.  Everything is too expensive.  Everybody else gets it and I never do.  I just can’t stand it!

One of my 6 squirrels who visit each day. This one is Skitter.

Ever hear anyone say those things?  Or something similar?  Okay.  It’s time to sit down and breathe a bit.  Take a deep breath.  No. I am not giving up!  I am not quitting! I’m trying to make a point.  I know.  This is not normal for me.  Steve’s Country is here to help put a smile on your face each day.  But, hey, this is part of that.  Giving up, quitting, should not be part of our thinking.  All too often we look at all the bad points. We dwell on the negative.  Stop.  This is something that we do need to give up, to quit.  Stay away from the negative.  Here is a couple of quotes;

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.

Many of life’s failures are from people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.

These are quotes from Thomas Edison.  Although he didn’t invent the electric light bulb, he is the one credited with perfecting it and making it commercially viable.  And it is said that he tried over 3 thousand different ways to make it work just right.  He didn’t give up because it was difficult, or because it took too long, or was too expensive. He kept trying until he succeeded.  I wonder how many times we have given up just when one more try would be enough to achieve our goal?  Or our dream?  I have a dream right now with lots of difficulties in the way. If I concentrated on the difficulties I would probably want to give up.  But it’s far better to look at the positive points, and there always is some, and that will keep us going until that dream is realized. Never give up!  Keep pressing on and looking ahead.

Finally a male purple finch allowed me to get close, not quite perfect though.

You know, sometimes we tend to look at problems, but instead of doing that, go for a walk.  Look at the things around you.  Listen to the birds singing.  Stop and watch that robin running around on the ground as it looks for worms and insects for it’s lunch.  Sometimes they have to run around a lot, but they never give up, they keep going until they finally find what they are after.

And here is the female purple finch.

I enjoy going for a walk, especially in the early morning when it is so quiet. But I like to go for a walk anytime really.  On one route that I used to take, there was an orange cat that would always meet me at a certain spot.  He was a tough looking cat, obviously spent a good deal of time outdoors, but he did have a home.  He would always come running to me as soon as he saw me.  All he wanted was some attention.  And he would always purr so loudly.  One of those little blessings that can perk up our day.  If we are willing to look.

Not everyone’s favorite, though not nearly as bad as people think. A yellow bellied sapsucker.

Stop and admire the flowers along the way.  There is amazing beauty in flowers.  There are thousands of varieties of daylilies, I think I read recently that there are now over 70,000.  And each one is unique and beautiful, yet all are daylilies.  Consider that for a moment.  It’s like people.  We are all human.  But we are all unique and beautiful.  And everyone is important.  No one is useless.  Remember that each day.  And your day will be far better. You will be able to start your day and handle the challenges that will come along.  Never give up.  Never quit.

And, of course, my guard kitty, Muffin.

Your worth consists in what you are, and not in what you have.

Okay. A bit different today.  Thank you for joining me on this beautiful spring day and I hope you will join me again next time and until then, enjoy your day and God bless!

Steve and Muffin.

Champagne?😲 Ilona, you know I don’t touch alcohol of any kind! Neither does Muffin. I think she was just a little tired of getting her picture taken!😹📷 Coffee, or tea, is my choice for a drink, maybe water too.☕😁😂

  3. Thank you so much for this post of wisdom Steve! I have no idea how many times I said those words. I GIVE UP! but thanks to my husband I give up the idea of giving up because it’s just as you said, giving up is a weakness.
Giving up also means you lost to the challenge of life.

Muffin please step out of the screen and give me a hug! 😍

And no, it’s not that I didn’t like your choice. I just didn’t like that it come from Edison. I can really hold my grudge you know, so when I don’t like, I don’t like, even if it’s likeable as long as it come from the person I don’t like haha.

  5. Giving up it is loser’s mindset. People who don’t have strength usually give up and start to sink in their depression, which is showing the weakness and inability to learn. No mater what, giving up never solving the problems it makes them even more bigger. But the courageous to confront all fears makes the problems tiny and then disappear. 🌺 Great post!!!

  6. Enjoyed this post, and glad to see you are still keeping it positive, LOL!! Almost had me going there too. I love daylilies– each bloom lasts a day, reminds me of our daily bread/manna in the wilderness; each day we must gather enough for the day all over again.

  7. Steve, this is a great post. I love the Robin aspect! Yes, we should never give up, though at times we may want to. I know I have wanted to over the years. I can’t though!
