Time For Coffee In The Park!

Hello everyone on this beautiful Wednesday morning!  The sun is shining so brightly.  Just a few brilliant white clouds against the azure blue sky.  It is a bit on the cool side today though.  Right now it is 64F (18C).  So you may want a sweater or jacket while joining us today for our coffee time.  This morning we are off to another small, but beautiful park.  This park is not well known, so tourists don’t use it.  Even our local population seldom use this park, except for special occasions.IMG_6622

People will sometimes have an outdoor wedding in this park.  It really is a beautiful location for a wedding.  Or even a large group picnic would be nice here.  Perhaps for celebrating an anniversary would also be great.  There is a large grass area which makes it ideal for weddings or other things.  It’s also a great area for kids to run around and play.  There are many nice shade trees, some very large, which would be nice on a hot summer day for those who don’t like to be right in the sun.IMG_6623

Plus this park is located right on the shore of our beautiful Lake of the Woods.  Look out there on the lake, that’s one of our boat taxi’s bringing people in to town that live on the islands during the summer months.  They also have a canopy for the boat if it happens to be raining.  There are several picnic tables here for us to use, and I brought a good supply of hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate and milk tea.IMG_6632

I try to have something for everyone.  And Sheree is bringing her very delicious vegan banana cake again.  I will have to see if I can talk her into bringing along some cookies next time too!  And over there is a bench for anyone who would like to sit and look out over the lake.  I’m not sure why there is only one bench here, would be nice to have more.IMG_6631

Do you hear that?  A song sparrow is singing a little further down the shore.  It is so quiet now that many birds are leaving, heading back south for the winter.  Most are still here, but now that nesting season is finished so is the singing.  But at times they will still sing a bit and…oh, look there, a mother mallard with her 4 young ones.  Just swimming quickly past a little out from shore.  I guess the mother saw us and wants to get her little ones out of the way as quickly as possible.  Such a nice sight though.  So many people wouldn’t even pay attention to that, but there is a real pleasure, whether in the country or town.

Spotted touch-me-not.

And over here by the shore is one of our more brightly colored wildflowers, the spotted touch-me-not.  They are quite a common wildflower in our area and can really brighten up a shady spot.  Speaking of a shady spot, over there by the edge of the grass, do you see them?  Those are pearly everlastings.  They are a nice bright white flower that can be found in many places, by water, on rocky areas, even growing in sandy gravel.

Pearly Everlasting.

It really is quite nice, even with the cooler temps, but there isn’t much wind today so that helps a lot.  But, alas, our coffee break is over for another week.  I sure hope you enjoyed our trip to this park today, and there is still one more park to visit yet for our coffee time next week.  After that, well, I’m not sure, but I will come up with something.  Meantime, I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!IMG_6627

  1. Steve, thanks for sharing coffee and the beauty of this park. I walk a couple of nature parks in the area, but I am missing some of the early spring birds. Fall will soon be here, and a few have left.

  2. Beautiful scenery. It feels so relaxing. How do you know the names of so many plants?
I wonder why it’s called “touch-me-not”, is it poisonous?

    Liked by 3 people

    • No, not poisonous, but if you touch the flower buds before they open they will pop! Lots of pressure in there, it’s a very watery plant. I did a study of plants in our area, basically just trying to discover how many wildflowers are in this area. It was for our Canadian Wildlife Service and lasted for 3 years, during the spring and summer. I found over 300 wildflowers here, but I had to travel around a bit to do it. Thanks so much for reading, I truly appreciate your support!😁😸🌞🌳🌼

      • Bottomless coffee!!☕️💕 I never actually did have coffee today even tho iced coffee was offered. I already had a Steeped tea from Tims in my hands. No matter how much I try, I cannot replicate their steeped tea! So I still buy it every so often. It’s one of those simple pleasures in life that I’m not willing to give up. 🙏🏻🌱

      • Hey, if you like it, why not?😀 Ever tried using your coffee maker for making tea? 🤔 Yep, always bottomless coffee here at Steve’s Country!☕ I hope you have a great day Hilary!😃😺🌞🌳

      • I never thought of that! 😮 What a fantastic idea! 😀💕 I’m guessing you’ve had Steeped Tea before and have seen how they make it. I could take an orange pekoe tea bag(s), open the bag(s), pour the leaves into the filter and run it through the coffee maker. Thanks for the suggestion, Steve! 🙏🏻🇨🇦

      • I don’t open the tea bags, just put them in the filter and run it through, works good. I actually got the idea from a different restaurant in town, they always had nice tea. Enjoy your day!😃😺🌞🌳☕

      • If this works, you will save me hundreds of dollars on steeped tea each year! This is the last thing I was buying from Tim Hortons. Their food has really gone downhill ever since Burger King bought them.

      • Update: It worked!😍 Looks and tastes like steeped tea with a bitter coffee aftertaste since I ran it thru the coffee maker. In the future, I will try and find a cheap coffee maker so I can use that just for orange pekoe tea! Thank you Steve, for this life-hack. 💕😊🌸👏

      • True, it would be better with it’s own coffee maker, glad you like it! I enjoy it that way too, better than any other way I found. You’re welcome, enjoy!😃😁😺☕

      • No worries my friend! Maybe there’s something going on with wordpress. Let me know if the book mark doesn’t work. I went to easydiet.blog and it’s no longer there. Do you know what’s going on? Has she stopped blogging

        Liked by 2 people

      • Yes, Ilona has quit blogging and deleted her site. She said it was causing her too much stress and people were constantly giving her a hard time, so she figured it was time to stop. I haven’t heard from her since she stopped so I don’t know how she is doing now.

It’s really relaxing to spend time there! The green, water and view 👌
Touch-me-not 😌 what a weird name for a beautiful flower, we have a plant here when you touch it it folds to inside, we call it something like get timid or so 😸
Beautiful scenery and place 👍 thank you for sharing and hope your day will be great 🌞🌞🌞😸😸

    • It is a very peaceful little park really since hardly anyone uses it.🙂 Touch-me-not is named because if you touch the flower buds before they open, they will pop!😲 There is a lot of pressure in the buds because it’s a very watery plant and if the buds pop then there will be no flower,😬 therefore the name. Thanks so much for reading and I hope you will have a great day tomorrow!😄😸🌞🌳

    • Thank you so very much Simon! True, it does look so nice and warm in the pictures, but it was cool! It’s called a touch-me-not because if you touch the flower buds before they open then they will pop!😲🌼 Quite a bit of water pressure in the plants, they are very watery, and it doesn’t take much to make those buds pop. I have learned a lot about all the flora and fauna of our area and did studies on wildflowers for our Canadian Wildlife Service,😀 plus bird and mammal studies as well.🙂🦅🦆🐿 So I learned a lot through that. I also worked with the National Audubon Society, also doing bird studies. Thanks for reading Simon and I hope you have a great day!!😃😺🌞🌳
