For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Oh Deer
Deer make pleasant friends you know,
Wondrous beauty that they show.
Large and proud they always stand,
And are found throughout the land.
They come walking through the yard,
Though getting close can be hard.
I love to pet all these deer,
Bucks and does, when they come near.
They truly are great to see,
Wonderful they are to me.
I take a picture as they go,
I like to watch and learn and know.
Standing strong, those amazing deer,
I just love that they live here.

Hi Yonnie! Thank you so very much! Your comment means a great deal to me! I enjoy making friends with these amazing animals. They are around a lot right now feeding on as much grass as they can before the snow covers it completely. Wish I was feeling better to get out for more pics. Hope your week is great!ππΈπ¦

You are quite welcome. Your comment paints a beautiful pic of enjoyable time with your animal friends. The weather has cooled here, missed my furry friends this morning. We gained an hour so I was late. ππ±

This time change can mess things up a bit. I forgot today so was late giving the blue jays their last peanuts of the day. Have to remember to do that an hour earlier now.ππ₯

They are beautiful to seeβbut boy do they reek havoc in the garden!

Yes, they can be a problem in the garden. When I lived in the country I fed deer and had both a veggie and flower garden. Never had much problem with the deer. Most are stopped by a 4 ft high fence. One doe got to liking green tomatoes, never touched ripe ones. Tying some screen loosely around the plants stopped that. Cayenne pepper also worked, but had to be applied after every rain. Nothing is perfect though if the deer is determined.
Because they get into gardens is the main reason why people hate them here.π π¦ Not an easy problem to resolve unfortunately.ππ¦
Hope you have a wonderful day Nina!ππΈπ

So true, Steveβnothing is perfect! A couple of days ago, a very young buck got into our fenced yardβcrying for his mother. SooooβI cried back. βmaaaaaβ and he cried again! They sure are sweet creatures.
About the only thing Iβve found that they wonβt eat is rosemary.
No, not an easy problem to solve. They really let you pet them? Animal whisperer, eh?
Hope you have a wonderful day too, Steve. πππ

Yes indeed, I pet them, hug them and when the bucks have their antlers it must get itchy on their head right at the base of the antlers, so I rub them there and do they ever enjoy that!ππ¦π They groan and lean towards me. If I stop too soon they will give me a gentle nudge and their eyes just look so bright, so I rub some more.
That was at the last place I lived. The deer here spend more time in their natural habitat and only come around in winter normally so it’s harder to make friends with them. Plus it’s now against the law to feed them.π¬ I just wish I had a camera before, I could have had so many great pics.ππ·π¦
Animals of all kinds seem to like the way I talk, keeps them calm. π It helps a lot.
Thanks Nina! Slowly there is some progress being made. I think.ππΉπ

What a wonderfully delightful image, Steve! So sweet and gentle. Remember the old TV show βGrizzly Adamsβ? Thatβs sort of the image I have…
Keep writing poetry! Maybe one day you will narrate them for us? You do have a calming voice.
Iβm glad to know there is some progress being madeβnow just donβt over do it!
Have a great evening, Steveβsee you soon. ππ΄ππ

Hi Nina! Never saw “Grizzly Adams”, though I know about it. Yes, I am planning to give the narration a try one of these days.
Yes, that is something I have to be careful about, overdoing it! When I start to feel a bit better I always try to push it too much. But this time I am going to be careful.
Thanks, you as well Nina!ππΈπ

Me too! I wish I could pet them too. I probably saw a deer 7 times in my life and the longest was about 5 minutes as it ran with the car beside the road π Lovely poem Steve β€
