Things Just Happened To Dad.

Islands on the lake.

Hello everyone on this cold and windy day!  But the sun is shining which always makes things look so much brighter and nicer.  Today I thought we would take just a short look at some of the “problems” dad would get himself in while we were doing things together. Poor dad, he was just so accident prone.  Something I have inherited from him so now things happen to me.  And we will take a look at some of those things in another post very soon.

But for today, here are some “accidents” dad encountered, though not all at the same time…

Dad and I were at this old abandoned farm.  The house was still standing.  Though it was leaning a bit, and sinking in the middle.  And it was empty.  Except for some odd broken furniture.  An old calendar was tacked to the wall.  Actually I think it was also glued.  Could not get it off, except in pieces.  Oh well.  Dad was hesitant to come inside.  Floor is good and solid, I said.  I jumped.  No problems.  Dad came in and went in the other room.  Creak!  Very loud crack.  Then, AAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!  Then, NOOOOO!!!!!!  Followed by frantic scrambling.

I decide it would be safer to stay where I was.  I was right.  Dad came running past,  chased by bees.  Dad said hornets.  Dad liked to exaggerate.  Seems he fell through the floor.  Bees must have been living under there and didn’t like being disturbed.  Poor dad.  And after all that we didn’t find anything worthwhile inside or out.  We were looking around outside for a while after this, there was a lot of junk around that place.  Hmm, looked like a very old grain shovel on the ground.  I picked up the handle and gave a good pull on it since it seemed stuck on something.  Right then dad decided to sit down, right on top of his backpack, which a big crunch.

You should be more careful, I said, you might hurt yourself.  Bonehead, I was standing on that shovel.  That’s what I mean, you need to be careful.  I should have stayed home, he said.  How odd.  Then there was the time dad told me to untie the boat, which was tied at the dock.  He said he meant for me to untie the boat after he got in and put the motor on the back.  He did not say that.  He said to untie the boat.  So I did.  Dad stepped into the boat with one foot.  The boat naturally began moving away from the dock.  The look on dad’s face as his legs spread further apart until…splash.  Good thing the water wasn’t deep.  He got completely soaked anyway.

Then there was the time dad and I were out digging for old bottles.  Dad hadn’t been finding much so he came over to see how I was doing.  He just started to ask me, when I tossed  a shovel full of dirt in the air.  Right in his face.  And mouth.  He started coughing and sputtering.  I turned around quickly to see what was going on.  Didn’t realize dad was so close.  My shovel hit him on the back of the leg.  His leg buckled and he sat down.  With a thud.  Flattened an old metal bucket.  Rats, I said, I was going to use that to carry my bottles back to the car.  Bonehead, said dad.  Amazing how dad always enjoyed himself even when things didn’t go too well.

All for now, but more will be coming, including a post about myself too, showing how I take after dad.  Just the way it is.  Things happen sometimes, so what else can it be?  Anyway, I hope you have a great day and God bless!

  3. Poor Dad was accident prone and not a good thing to inherit. But, then we don’t have control over what we inherit and just have to be aware of it. ☕️☕️🙀😬
