Daily Pics #126.

Good morning everyone!  It looks like another cloudy day here, but at least the clouds kept it from freezing overnight, so that is a definite plus.  There is getting to be a lot more little sparrows around now, and another new one showed up yesterday, the white-crowned sparrow.  Still waiting for our two largest sparrows yet, the fox sparrow and the Harris’ sparrow.  The sparrows are later than usual this year, as are most birds it seems.  Each year they seem to be coming back a little later than the year before.  The clay-colored sparrow has also not shown up yet.  Normally we would be getting a lot of warblers coming back now, but only one has managed to find their way up here so far.  They are all such beautifully colored little birds, but because they are so small they are seldom seen by people.  But their songs are generally loud and beautiful, except for a few of them.  So it is always such a joy when they do arrive and their songs are added to the morning chorus.

And now for today’s spring pics…

In the above pic is a ruffed grouse, a bird I have been trying to get for the last 2 years.  It is generally kind of hard to get close to these birds to get a good pic and this one still isn’t the best, but I am happy to at least have one to add to my collection of bird pics now.  There are some small twigs in front of him giving a slight blurry look.IMG_3892

Although we have seen the mourning cloak butterfly already, I thought this one looked nice sitting on top of this young balsam tree as it was enjoying some sunshine.

  6. So that is what a grouse looks like ! Great pic ! Very little movement of birds at our place …be careful today ! ☕️☕️🙂😻

    • Thanks so much Sharon! Those grouse are about the size of a smaller chicken.
      Another cloudy day, supposed to be sunny, hope it is when I go for my walk.

  9. Good Morning, Steve! You have great eyes to capture images most of us miss. The ruffled grouse photo shows how good they are at camouflage.

    Spring is late here also. I know with the longer sunlight hours, the snow will eventually melt. One sign of Spring are the first mosquitoes that are slow not like the clouds of dive bomber mosquitoes that cone late r,

    • Thanks so very much! Yes, those grouse really blend in. If it wasn’t for that tiny sort of whistle they do I would have missed this one.
      We are about 20 degrees F below normal right now. We get those kinds of mosquitoes also, but I haven’t seen any yet.

Grouse is beautiful, Hey did I tell you I am a fan of watching dried sticks🤔😊 The first pic is really nice, It helped me to draft a horror story now, no need to panic, I am not going to publish and scare people, the mission is still incomplete, Purpose of the mission is under questioning. 🤔Enough thinking for the day, beautiful pictures, Have a lovely day 💐✨😊
