For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hi everyone and welcome to something sort of new! Instead of our Darting Dragonflies, I have replaced it with Thursday’s Thoughts which will include several different things. It will include dragonflies at times, butterflies, mushrooms, insects in general, plus other thoughts about things. Basically just a series where I talk about, whatever comes to mind that Thursday. With pictures of course to go along with what I’m talking about. It is a sunny, but cool day today, with a strong north wind. I would like to go for a walk to the river, but I think I will wait another day and maybe it won’t be so windy. It is hard to hear back in the pines with such a strong wind, and I like to hear what is going on around me. Especially since there are hungry bears around this time of year. Generally bears will run when people come along, they don’t want a fight anymore than we do. But it’s those sudden unexpected encounters that can be troublesome. And a noisy wind can make it hard for them to hear as well.
Anyway, here I am and spring has arrived even though on some days, like this one, it doesn’t really feel like it. But, there are signs of spring showing up everywhere. New growth in the landlord’s flower gardens. The grass is turning greener all the time, as in the pic above.
And there are new tiny leaves showing up on small shrubs and even on some larger shrubs now. Some of those new leaves are sort of a reddish color or reddish green, like on the small shrub above. But they are popping out now which is so nice to see, a true sign of spring and an exciting time as it shows that summer is not far away now.
And the wildflowers are beginning to grow again as well and likely won’t be long before some of them are once again blooming, such as these “pale corydalis” in the pic above. And these “tansy” plants that have also begun to grow in the pic below, even though they don’t start to bloom until mid to late summer.
Spring. Little things. A most beautiful time of the year. It brings with it new growth, and new hope that things do get better. We just need to be patient and wait a little. I hope you have enjoyed this little rambling of mine today. Each week will be a little different so please come and check it out. I also hope that you all have a wonderful day, stay safe and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

Ahhhh…little things…that bug me…😜
It is nice to see the spring greens again. Tansy is so pretty in bloom.
A couple of times have we startled bears on our walks. Can they run! Our little 23 pound terrier has chased them right up trees…scary! Hope you are feeling good today and enjoying some fresh air🖐😻🙂

Yep, bears generally run when they see people, but since I’m by myself, I don’t like to take chances with them. They can truly run fast, quite amazing when they certainly don’t look like they are built for speed running!
Kind of cold today so my fresh air was limited to spending time on the deck, even there it was cold with that wind.
Hope you have a good evening Nina!😁😸🌞🌙

Hello Steve and Muffin. The pictures are so interesting. The corydalis and the tansy seeming to grow out of nothing.
Have a great day.

Hi Pene! They are basically growing right on rock, just a tiny bit of soil there.
Enjoy your evening!😃😺🌞🌙

Yes, that wind can be bad, I prefer calm days or light wind when walking that path. But it is so beautiful back there.
Thanks for reading, enjoy your evening!😃😺

Yeah, yku can turn them fans off anytime now! It’s plenty chilly here today! 43 for a high! What’s up with that?

Hey, not bad, same as here! No fans, just 15,000 gulls flapping their wings your direction.😂😂

They are supposed to bring the warm air back with them from down south!!

I think they forgot this year.

Don’t feed them until they go back and get it!🥶

I’m feeding them extra just to keep the wings flapping.

Hey!! That’s just being unkind! I said I would share the heat if it ever gets here!🥶

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. You laughed when it was cold here and hot there. My gulls didn’t like that when I told them, so they got their friends together and wham!

Fine then no heat for you this summer!

Your gulls will send it up here for us. My gulls made a deal with them, they’re going to send them a care package.

How did they over the border when it’s been closed? We’ll need to catch them and deport them then!😂😂

They just meet the MN gulls at the border and pass the care packages underwater.

Hey Steve, can I pick your brain on appliances? What should I go with in the Kitchen? Painted Black or stainless steel?

Stainless steel would be my choice. But that’s just me.

So your thinking a hot plate and ice chest for keeping the food cool? I could do dishes in the lake I suppose🤔 Good Thinking! I can save big bucks that way!

We have big bucks up here too. I don’t like hot plates, keep burning my fingers. Ice chests tend to melt when it gets hot in summer. Better rethink that idea.😂😹🙄

That was a little more than a bit! Did you meet any Bears?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah, got sidetracked. No bears, but people out walking dogs today, big dogs, one huge Saint Bernard, friendly as could be. So I figured with all those dogs there wouldn’t be any bears around. Kind of nice. It was cold with that wind by the river, nice along the path, couldn’t feel the wind.

Definitely dogs and bears don’t like to be aroundceach other.

Staying at home causes me to reflect on what God has done and what He continues to do for us each day ! Of course we can do the same when going for a walk , or visiting the lonely and the those who are ill…bears are really hungry, so be careful ! ☕️☕️🤔☕️☕️🙂

True enough, good way to do things. We can’t visit people here yet, except by phone. Yes, not much food for the bears yet, except ants which are now active and the bears favorite food. A little less active now though due to the cold weather. Yep, I’m as careful as I can.
Have a great day!😃😺🌞☕☕
