Daily Pics #142.

Good morning everyone!  It is another beautiful spring morning as I sit outside once again with my cup of coffee listening to all the different birds singing far and near.  The green is really beginning to show up so nicely among the trees now.  As the sun climbs over the hill and touches the tops of those trees, the emerald green of the new leaves shines ever so brightly.  The loud laughing call of the pileated woodpecker comes from the neighbors black ash trees as it searches for some breakfast.  Sir George is once again on the feeder enjoying his breakfast as well, periodically looking over at me to talk for a bit.

A cape may warbler is singing from a nearby tree, and so is a chestnut-sided warbler, one of my favorites.  Both of these birds are brightly colored, but small, so I would have to be standing close to them to get a decent picture.  But sitting here with my binoculars I can get a very nice view of them.  Hopefully my neighbors don’t see me with my binoculars aimed towards their house.  But that’s the direction of the birds.  Have to be careful these days.  And I saw my first hummingbird of the year yesterday.  He was inspecting the spot I had the feeder hanging at last year, so I had to quickly get it out there again.  It wasn’t long and he was visiting the feeder enjoying some quick energy.

Spring flowers have begun to bloom…

Yes, the lowly dandelion, the flower that people love to hate.  Personally I think it’s quite pretty, plus the entire plant from flower to roots is edible and full of vitamins.Wild Black Currant3

And the wild black currant bush has begun blooming as well.  There is only a few of these bushes along the path to the river.

I hope you all have a most wonderful day, stay safe and God bless!

  1. Good morning Steve!
The hummingbird remembered the feeder from last year? Wow! So cute 🐦😉
I don’t hate dandelions…my grandma used to give them to us to eat in salads 😉
Wish you a great day! 😻😉

    • Good morning Ribana!😀😺 Yes, he actually remembered, so I know it’s the same one.😁
Yes, I always liked to put dandelions in salad, very nutritious, and the roots make great coffee!☕☕ People here hate them and constantly spray them with all sorts of poison trying to get rid of them. My landlord does that too, so I can’t eat the dandelions here.😕
      Thanks, enjoy your evening!😁😸🌞🌙

  2. Good morning Steve! I don’t often catch a post with my morning coffee so I am enjoying a double treat. Your description of the scene outside makes me wish I could see it in person, but this virtual tour will have to do. Have you received any of the much-needed rain? I hope so. Here in Ohio, we’ve been wet all week. The creek behind me was well outside of its banks a couple of days ago.

    • Good morning Richard! Nice to have you here for an early morning look at things around my place. We haven’t really had much rain, just like not much snow this past winter. But because of the record rains last fall the ground is still damp. But now that things are really growing it will dry up fast. We are supposed to get showers this weekend, we’ll see. But the river is at a record low for this time of year which is not good. It will take a lot of rain to get it back to normal. June is our wettest month normally.
Hope you have a wonderful day!😃😺🌞☕☕

      • Yes indeed, the whole plant can be eaten, leaves and flowers for a salad, roots dried for coffee (and it’s not bad!)
Sorry you had to work, I read that you’re putting in extra hours now, you’re doing a wonderful job with these people John! Thanks for staying with it during this time!
