Daily Pics #206.

Good morning on this very beautiful summer Friday! And…Happy Friday to all of you as well! It has been such a nice sunny morning, and warm, with a warm breeze blowing in from the south. This is what summer should feel like. It’s supposed to hit 32C (90F) and with the humidity it will feel like 41C (105F). And tomorrow about the same. My kind of weather for sure. But with the heat comes the threat of thunderstorms today and tomorrow and clouds are coming in right now, leading the way to thundering weather ahead. Muffin won’t be having a good day if that happens. Speaking of Muffin, she escaped this morning. Muffin is strictly an indoor kitty, too much danger outside with wild animals and even worse, wild people. So I must be very careful going in and out, especially when chipmunks are around. I had just been out to feed Sir George and Lady Pearl. There was peanuts on the step outside my door, but no chipmunks, so it was safe.

Just as I opened the door 2 chipmunks came flying past in full chase, right beside the door. And Muffin was also right beside the door and managed to push her way out and after the chipmunks she went. I tried to stop her and fell off the step, landing with a loud thump, so I now have a very sore back. Muffin didn’t get far since one chipmunk went into an emergency hiding spot I have out there for them in case predators should come along. Like that other cat that comes around here. So I grabbed Muffin and quickly put her inside again. Amazingly she didn’t scratch me this time. So all ended well, but a little too much excitement for an early morning when things should be calm and relaxing. It is that way now however, with the loons having a great time calling to each other down at the river and a couple more flying overhead possibly heading to the river to join the others. Sounded like a larger gathering of them this morning. Speaking of the river…no, I’ll leave that for next time.

The top featured image is a female mallard duck with her 3 little ones that are almost full grown now.

In the picture directly above is a female common merganser and her brood of 15 little ones. That picture was taken last Friday, I managed to crawl within 15 feet (4.5 meters) of them. I was trying not to scare them into the water, this was nap time for the little ducklings. Well, I hope you all have a great Friday and God bless!

  1. Love the post. As always relaxing and sweet.
There’s a squirrel living near the trees of our home now but even when I put nuts outside it isn’t coming to get it, even when we aren’t watching 😢
Any tips how we can be its friend Steve?

    • Peanuts are the favorite for squirrels of all kinds. Try to put the peanuts out so that he sees you do it. You might have to start by putting them close to a tree that he uses a lot and talk to him when you put them out. It’s important that he knows you are putting them out. Sometimes it can take awhile, it depends on the squirrel. Once he finds those peanuts it should go easy. I always talk to them in a quiet calm voice which they seem to like. Works for me anyway.😁😸🐿🥜🥜

      • You were thinking too much again, right?🤔🙄 Will you be able to get everything finished today?🤔 I mean tomorrow. Which is today. I’ll stop before I start running in circles again.😬🏃‍♂️ I’m feeling better though, this heat helps a lot to get that pain to settle down quickly.😃😺 Even the virus symptoms feel better today. At least a little anyway. Every little bit helps!😁🌞🌴😎

    • That’s very true, but she’s probably lost a bunch of them already. They usually get between 4 and 6 to adulthood.
Thanks, feeling better already. Have a great day!

    • Yes, the temptation was too big for her, but terrifying for me! Fortunately the heat helped things to settle down quickly, the nice thing about heat, it always helps.😁🌞

    • Oh well, my back is getting better, but thanks. Now I have to be extra careful at the door!
I wanted to get closer to the ducklings but I would have had to go in the open and that would have scared them into the water. It was so nice to see so many of them!😃😺🌞📷
      Have a great evening Ribana!😁😻
