For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! It is very cool and wet this morning, it rained overnight and it’s still cloudy with a temp of only 59F (15C). If the forecast is correct, these cool nights are here to stay now. But that is quite normal for August, the nights are longer and they get cooler like this. Except it isn’t quite August yet, but close enough. Hard to believe that some of our birds will be heading south in a few days. Seems like they just came back. There is no chorus of birds singing in the morning anymore, they all have young flying around now and the parents are diligently showing them how to survive, no time for singing now. Though now and then one of them will stop and sing briefly, especially the warblers, but most of them are silent now too. Singing brings unwanted attention to them and their young who are not yet wise to predators.
The chipmunks and the new squirrel have been getting acquainted this morning. I need to come up with a name for that squirrel, I have tried out a couple but they just didn’t fit him. He doesn’t like the chipmunks, naturally, and chases them on sight, but the chipmunks outnumber him and work together. This morning Squirrel was chasing a chipmunk and got him off the deck, while another chipmunk (Pocket) came up behind him. When Squirrel turned around, the sight of the chipmunk standing there must have startled him and he jumped and ran. He didn’t get far though and must have realized it was a chipmunk so he turned and the chase was on again. During this chase 2 other chipmunks filled up with peanuts and left. Another time Squirrel was sitting eating a peanut on the step outside the door when a chipmunk jumped on there with him. Poor Squirrel, he jumped straight up and took off running, but before he ran off the deck, he stopped, turned around and saw the chipmunk filling up with peanuts and he came charging back and chased the chipmunk off the deck. Before he got back 3 other chipmunks got their peanuts and scattered when the Squirrel came back, he didn’t know which one to chase so he just sat there kind of bewildered. He’s learning, slowly.
Well, now for our pics for today, the top featured image is white “phlox”, a very nice country garden flower, but it would look good in any garden. It is hardy and a perennial, so it comes up again every year and doesn’t need a lot of care.
Then in the photo above is the lavender “phlox”, the two colors look very nice together and are a medium height flower which makes them a good choice to put in front of taller flowers like hollyhocks or delphiniums. I hope you all have a beautiful day and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

Funny thing is growing up, I always thought the 1st place ribbon being red made more sense and just recently I learned it’s blue but now I just learned something else!

Good morning, Steve! Another insomniac night… I seem to be having a lot of those nights. These are some really pretty flowers! Rain or shine, flowers are always nice! πΊ
Random question: do you use Twitter? I havenβt used Twitter for several years but decided to follow the bloggers I follow (if they have it). One blogger raves about Twitter but Iβm still trying to figure out what all of the hype is about. Turns out Twitter is so boring that it does not trigger me emotionally. π©βπ»
P.S. I got your email and will respond to it today or sometime this week. It was a very thought-provoking email.

Good morning Hilary, sorry to hear you had another bad night, that’s no fun.π
Thanks so much, flowers always bring cheer to a day.
No, I don’t use Twitter, I’m having a hard enough time keeping up with blogging right now. I don’t really want to get involved in anything else, it will end up taking too much of my time and I won’t get anything done.π€
Thanks Hilary, I hope your day goes well!ππΊπββ

I have Twitter on autopilot so posts go directly to Twitter when I upload them. I donβt even have to log in, but figured I should at least follow the bloggers I follow on WP. Tbh I have forgotten how to write status updates so Iβm not going to bother. All it really needs is an updated cover photo. I totally get that; social media is huge time waster!
Hmm… I feel like an insomniac right now. Itβs hard to think when Iβm so tired, but strangely Iβm most creative when Iβm overtired. Idk why…π€

Yes, I just want to stay away from social media completely, maybe I’ll change if I ever stop blogging.
When I get overtired I just can’t think straight so I usually stay with something easy that day. Hmm, still cloudy and cold here, I’ll wait a bit longer then I will try a walk today.ππΊπΆββοΈπ

Like I always knew Twitter was dumb, but now I realize that itβs really stupid. I plan to only keep it for networking and blogging related purposes. I donβt see the point of following an account without a website. Also, looks like they changed Twitter a lot since the last time I logged in. Please donβt stop blogging. The blogging community would be so dull and boring without you! π
Itβs hot and sunny today. I never did go back to sleep and now my phone is dying yet again. Might go for a walk today as well…. to MCDs to go get iced coffee π

I’m not thinking of stopping right now. But since I’m not getting out much this summer it’s going to really hurt my winter blogging.
Still cool here though the sun is shining now finally so maybe I can do a short walk now.ππΆββοΈ Enjoy your iced coffee!πβπ³

I spoke too soon. I was wrong – Twitter is emotionally triggering too. Too bad I cannot disable the home page. Right now I feel numb… yeah, numb. You would think it would be the least offensive out of the bunch, but it’s not. Nothing is safe anymore.
If you run out of photos, you could do what other bloggers do – they use free images! Just kidding…plz don’t resort to that. It gets bad when you start to see repeat photos on blogs and realize that the bloggers took them from the same site, just moments apart. π€¦ββοΈ
Short walks are good. I’m sure there is a lot of photography to capture, even in your backyard. Stay safe! ππ

I agree, nothing is safe, another reason why I prefer to stay away from certain sites, like social media sites.
When I first started blogging I used free images because I didn’t have any of my own, then I decided to get a camera. I much prefer to use my own pics if possible. Though I have picked some pics for my stories since at times I really had nothing to fit and wanted something that would work. But I’m trying to work on that now too. I have lots of nature pics to put with the stories, just they don’t fit, if you know what I mean.
I was trying to get a pic of a new bee this afternoon, but it didn’t seem to like my company and chased me away. I had never seen this type of bee before and didn’t want to test it’s stinging capability!π²π
Hope you have a nice evening Hilary!ππΈπ

As long as I restrict who I follow to only bloggers, twitter should be OK. I saw someone on there from way back when I was using a certain app…. that app is super triggering for me, especially right now. Itβs hard to explain. I canβt even conjure up the words to describe it on my blog, and the emotional pain hurts. πββοΈ
Same. I also used free images because I figured it was a faster way to upload blog posts, which proved to be false because Iβm slow uploading stuff. Getting a camera was a really good decision and Iβm glad you did that! How long have you been blogging for? I only discovered your blog in 2019 so I donβt know the days when you used free images. Hahaha thatβs totally understandable! Better safe than being stung by some sting-worthy bees! ππ€£

Free images are good for certain things, like my stories, if I want something very specific that I can’t get myself, but sometimes people get confused and think they are mine, which creates problems sometimes. I basically started blogging in 2017, though I really didn’t do much until fall of 2018

Rats, that was sent before I finished. Anyway, I didn’t start with daily posts until spring of 2019. Then I was doing 3 or 4 posts a day which I have cut back now. So back in 2017/18 I was using free images mostly, though I did start with my own pics in 2018.
Yep,π³ I still hope I can get a pic of that bee though, or whatever it is.π· I’m getting a lot of insect pics together which will be part of a new series in the winter.ππ¦π¦π

3-4 posts/day sounds like a full time job. Do you get revenue from blogging? Idk how any of this works with paid domains.
Insects sound…. icky. *shivers* Please put a warning on your blog posts that will have pics of creepy crawlies.

I don’t know what happened, but my answer to your comment was deleted by WP! That wasn’t nice, especially after a writing a long answer. Sigh. This one will be shorter. No, I don’t get revenue from my blogging, that would be nice though. But I don’t want to get involved with advertising. I could do those posts in about 3 hours, so could get them done before breakfast, though I didn’t always do that. Now it can take me 2 hours/post. Since getting this Covid-19 I just can’t concentrate like I could before, so it takes longer to do things.
Yes, I was planning to put a warning on those posts, actually the title will be a warning in itself. Just go on quickly and hit the like button, no need to look or read!
I hope you have a wonderful Saturday Hilary!ππΊπ

Hi Steve! Thanks for your reply. Only 3 hours? Lol it takes me 6 hours to write a blog post, which is why I hardly write them π
Thatβs understandable that youβre dealing with brain fog. Thereβs no pressure to write. Writing should be an enjoyable process, even if thatβs only 1 post a day. Just donβt overwhelm yourself! Blogging should be fun, and I agree that advertising can take away from authenticity of blogging. So far Iβve made $0 blogging and plan to keep it that way, until I can learn how to write a book! Or make a movie! Or save the planet! Or cure cancer! Or maybe COVID-19!

I don’t know, I love writing and know what I want to write about so it just came easy for me before. So different now, but hopefully I’ll get back to it. Of course, not all my posts are long, though I used to write some up to 1200 to 1500 words. Right now my story is the longest post I write and it’s about 700 to 800 words. I have been thinking about making the chapters shorter though and posting 4 times/week instead of the present 3.
Yes, I agree, blogging should be fun,π I would stop if it ever becomes boring or I feel pressured with it. But right now I still enjoy it and I think it will stay that way for a long time yet!ππΊ I have made the same amount of money as you for blogging! I think I would start feeling pressured if money entered the picture, therefore fun would go out the window.π

Pretty flowers π. Let me ask a question, Both squirrels and Chipmunks are from same family right π€ is there a specific difference between two of them π³π

Squirrels are bigger, have large bushy tails and are basically all one color. Chipmunks have stripes and smaller thinner tails. Chipmunks hibernate, squirrels don’t. Chipmunks have cheek pouches to carry a lot of food, squirrels don’t have cheek pouches. Hope that helps.ππΏπΏπ₯π₯

Yes, chipmunks are not native to your area of the world.π There are 24 species of chipmunks in N. Americaπ and one in northern and central Russia, also extending to north China and north Japan. There are some wild chipmunks now in northern Europe due to people who had them as pets letting them go in forested areas. Yep, they are cuter for sure!ππΈπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏ
