20/20 Investigations, Inc. The Vacation. Chapter 2.

It was getting close to a full moon and the light from it was shining beautifully into the room. All the furniture in here is antique and the desk is especially nice, very beautiful woodwork, looks like it’s made from walnut. That’s such a fantastic wood, one of my favorites. I wouldn’t mind taking that desk home with me, but I doubt they would want to part with it. Hard to ship it back anyway. Oh well. It was a very pleasant night so I had the window open listening to all the tropical sounds. Then I heard some voices out in the hallway, but not right outside our room. I listened. They were looking for something apparently. Sounded like those 3 young guys we saw in the dining room. I got up and went to the door. The voices were moving further away so I opened the door quickly. Nothing. I looked both ways down that hallway, but no one was there. And no voices either.

Hmm, was I asleep and just dreaming I heard voices? I go back and lie down. Such a comfortable bed. Then I heard footsteps. But they were above me. Must be in the attic, I thought, so it must be workers. I heard voices coming from the attic now, a little hard to hear what they were saying though. This kept on for a little while, maybe 15 minutes, then all was quiet again. Then those voices were back in the hallway. This time I got up quickly and went to the door and opened it…but nothing again. They must have gone down the stairs already. The elevator was on the main floor so they didn’t use that. While standing there looking I had my foot in the door so it wouldn’t close on me and lock me out. Suddenly…CHOMP! I held back my scream and went back inside. Mr. Cat was there ready to attack my foot again. Meow!=Sorry, not know it you, thought maybe burglar try to get in here.

You didn’t notice I wasn’t in bed? Meow.=Oops, didn’t look, just notice foot in door so I attack. Meow?=It hurt? Um, yes it did. Meow.=Sorry. That’s okay, nice to know you’re paying attention, sort of. Meow.=Welcome. Meow, meow?=How I suppose to sleep with you two talking? Meow?=Why you out in hallway? Meow, meow?=You in hallway? Why you not sleep? I heard some voices in the hallway and went to see who it was. Meow, meow?=Who you see? I didn’t see anyone and it happened twice. Meow, meow!!=GHOSTS!! We pack now, leave in morning, maybe leave now. Meow?=You see any ghosts? Of course I didn’t see any ghosts, and we’re not leaving Muffin. Meow, meow?=Why you want to play with ghosts all the time. One time we going to end up ghosts too. Meow?=You see ghosts before? No, I have never seen a ghost, and there are no ghosts!

Meow?=If you not see ghost, how you know there no ghosts? Meow, meow.=Yeah, that good question. Meow.=Thanks. Meow, meow.=Welcome. Stop that you two. After the first time hearing the voices, I came back to lie down and heard footsteps and voices in the attic above us… Both cats ears went straight up! Meow?=Why you not say this before, I with Muffin, we pack and leave in morning. No, we are not leaving, it’s probably just some hotel workers looking for something, I’ll ask in the morning and then we’ll know for sure. The rest of the night passed peacefully enough, though the cats said they never slept after our little excitement. I awoke to both cats jumping around the bed like kangaroos saying, wake up, wake up! We’re on vacation, remember? Meow, meow.=Right, not want to waste vacation staying in bed all day. I look at the clock, it’s 6 am.

Breakfast isn’t for another hour, I said. Meow.=Good, get dressed, we go outside till breakfast time. Hmm, not a bad idea. Breakfast wasn’t ready, but the coffee was, great way to start the day! I mentioned the voices and footsteps in the attic to the woman at the desk. Her eyes got real wide and she disappeared into the kitchen and never returned. How odd. Sitting on the wide porch I was enjoying my coffee watching the cats chase each other around the trees. Then they came running over to me and asked if breakfast was ready. Almost, I said. Then Muffin’s ears went straight up again. Now what? I looked the direction she was looking but…nothing. Muffin kept staring. Meow, meow!=I see ghost! Meow?=I not see anything. Neither do I. Meow, meow.=Of course not, ghost not there. Meow?=Then how you know you see ghost? Meow, meow.=Because ghost was there, then went away. Meow?=Where ghost go? Meow, meow.=I not know. Right then the woman came out and told us breakfast was ready. Good, that will stop the ghost talk for awhile at least. We just get sitting down and both cats ears went straight up! Now what? Meow!!=Ghost!!, they both said at the same time. I turned to see and…it can’t be…
