Daily Pics #264. Jasper and Coffee.

Good morning everyone! It’s a very chilly morning again here with a temp of 1C (34F). It is still cloudy but not much wind this morning. There was a bit of ice on the deck again, even with the temp at just above freezing. But some spots can be colder than others, even within just a few feet. We did get snow yesterday, especially in the evening it was snowing quite heavily for awhile. Fortunately the ground is still quite warm so the snow melted when it hit the ground. Even during the night I noticed it was snowing a couple of times. But it’s that time of year now, we have to expect colder weather and snow at times until it finally gets cold enough for that snow to stay. Jasper seems to have disappeared now. I think he went across the street to look for a girlfriend, it’s that time of year for squirrels to look for their mates. And there doesn’t seem to be any other squirrels on this side of the street. Crossing that street is dangerous, it’s a very busy street. Last year I lost 4 squirrels and 3 chipmunks who were trying to cross that street, and 3 squirrels this year.

All my chipmunks live on this side of the street this year which is nice. Speaking of chipmunks, it seems like they have all gone to bed now, except one, Coffee. Coffee is the smallest of the group and the last one to join in collecting peanuts for the winter. So I guess he doesn’t quite have enough food to last the winter so he is braving the cold weather to stock up. The one nice thing for him, he has no competition except the blue jays, and he’s not afraid of them. Poor little Coffee was always chased by Jasper and all the other chipmunks. He was also the last one to make friends with me, he was actually amazingly slow. But we’re good friends now. More on that another time. Coffee is out there right now filling his cheeks with peanuts. He still has small cheeks, they haven’t stretched out yet like the other chipmunks, so he usually chews open the peanuts so he can carry more in one trip. Smart little critter. But he can carry 2 whole peanuts now, which is what he is doing this morning. I guess it’s too cold to just sit still opening the peanuts, he wants to keep moving to keep warm.

Well, more fall colors for the featured image at the top and beautiful rudbeckia in the photo above with zinnia in the background. They, too, make a nice group of fall colors, or anytime colors. Muffin and I hope you all have a fabulous Friday and God bless!

  1. Well as I write this it’s about seven in the morning and it’s 62 degrees here in SoCal. We’re on tap to have triple degree temps again today! Even though it’s October we are still seeing summertime type temperatures. And some people want to deny climate change???

    • Coffee is working steadily this morning, I gave him some sunflower seeds too, that way he gets some variety over winter.😀🐿🐿🐿🥜🥜

  5. The flowers are lovely ! Squirrels come and go around here…usually by cars…our street is very busy during the school terms…have a cup of coffee…another cup of coffee !☕️☕️😀😺☕️☕️‼️

  8. Lovely Jasper and Coffee, it’s good they are on the safer side. better if they never try to cross the road. Keep giving themi peanuts so they’ll never think about going across the road ☺️ Have a sweet night Steve ✨🤗
