20/20 Investigations, Inc. The Curious Letter. Chapter 5.

We got in the car and I pointed out the man across the road to Lena. “This is getting more scary all the time,” she said. “I wouldn’t worry too much just yet,” I said, “but turn back into town, drive around a bit and then come back out here and we’ll see if we can shake these people.” So she did and she kept going up and down streets for about 20 minutes then went back out to the road to go out to the farm. There was no sign of anyone following us until we had gone about 30km, then a car came up behind us very quickly. Suddenly they pulled up beside us and tried to force us off the road! Poor Lena was terrified so I told her to stop quickly which she did. The other car also stopped and started to back up. “Now what are we going to do?,” asked Lena. “Watch,” I said, “come cats.” All 3 of us got out and got in position right away. When the two people got out of their car I pulled my gun. They got right back inside their car, turned around and headed back into town quickly.

So the cats and I got back in the car and I told Lena to get going, which she did. “I didn’t think they would leave so quickly,” I said, “that’s very odd.” Meow, meow.=They make themselves look tough, but they not tough. “They might still be tough Muffin,” said Lena, “but it’s not easy getting a gun here.” “Criminals can always find ways,” I said, “but perhaps they didn’t want a confrontation right then. “Do you think they will be back?”, asked Lena. “Yes, I think so, no doubt they have been watching you for some time already and likely know where you live,” I said, hoping I wouldn’t scare her too much by saying that. “There’s a good chance they are behind all the odd things that have been happening,” I continued. Lena just looked at me. We came to the road that went to her grandparents farm. “It’s still another half hour down this road,” said Lena.

Driving into the farm.

We talked a bit more about the letter and what the treasure might be. Apparently no one had any idea what this treasure is, which was curious in itself. Finally we were at the farm and pulled up beside the house. It was a large, old farmhouse, but in excellent condition. There were numerous other smaller buildings around and one large barn, all of them looked old, some not in very good condition either. Lena’s grandfather met us outside and Lena introduced us. He told Lena that her grandmother was not feeling well so she went in to see her. “Lena has been filling me in on the case, Mr. Dubois,” I said. “Please call me Charlie,” he said, “I’m not sure if there really is a treasure, my wife and Lena are convinced there is one however.

Nice old farm, hey Muffin, where you go?

Our family has been looking for many years, then the letter gets lost, until we find it again. And the strange things, did Lena tell you about them?” “Yes, Charlie, but I’m sure there is a reasonable explanation for those things,” I said, but first, was there any other buildings on the property years ago which are no longer here?” “Yes, Chantelle’s grandfather mentioned some buildings, we found a couple of stone foundations over there in the trees, but two buildings he had talked about, we never could find,” he said. “But that was in conversations with him many years ago, things have changed a bit since then,” he added. “Have you searched the attic for more information?,” I asked. “No, not really, Lena has been up there a bit, but there is so much junk up there, it’s hard to find anything,” he answered, “but you are welcome to look up there as much as you want.”

What? You catch mouse already? I going to get next mouse!

“Thank you, I would like to do that after I have a look around the property a bit,” I said. “Good, I show you around,” said Charlie. “Come along you two,” I said to the cats. “I know it may sound strange, but these two cats are my helpers, and they really do help a lot with different things,” I said. Charlie just said they were nice looking cats and then proceeded to show me all around the area. Lastly we went into the barn and he showed me where the bale of hay had fallen from the loft. “Kind of odd it could fall down from there,” I said. “Yes, that’s what I think too,” he said quietly. Then I mentioned the people who had been watching us in town and along the road. Charlie turned pale at the news. “They have finally found us,” he said, his voice shaking a bit.

To Be Continued.

  1. You may have wondered why I never comment on your stories. I figure that I might as well disclose why I don’t…. a few years ago, I stopped reading fiction books, novels, you name it. To this day, I don’t read fiction and stick to non-fiction. I rarely read poetry and if anything, I write poetry from time to time. I seldom watch movies but will watch reruns of favourite tv shows. It’s just a personal preference. During my free time, I mostly watch documentaries and educational videos. Just recently I started watching YouTube videos which was a bad idea. It is dangerous… I must practice discipline. Must. Practice. πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»

I enjoy your pictures and learning about nature’s beauty that exists in your world. My attention span when it comes to stories though, is the equivalent of a goldfish.

    • To be honest Hilary, I never gave it a thought. Not many people that read it comment on it, same with my other posts. I know not everyone will like every post, that doesn’t bother me. There are others that follow it very diligently. As you say, it’s a personal preference so it doesn’t matter to me. But thanks for explaining so nicely anyway.
Yep, YouTube videos can be addicting and take up a lot of time, which is why I never watch them. Occasionally someone might recommend one to me and I will take a look, but that’s it. I just don’t have the time.
I’m thinking of some changes to my blog for the new year, just not quite sure what at the moment though I have some ideas.
How’s things going? Have a nice evening Hilary!πŸ˜€πŸ˜ΊπŸŒžπŸŒ™

      • It would be cool if you did a spoiler post about some upcoming changes for the new year! Sorry if I sounded negative regarding my previous comment. Lately I have been pretty stressed out which is reflecting my mood overall. Things have been busy and I just want this semester to be over. 😴

      • I have to get things settled first before I say anything. That’s okay, but that wasn’t bad. I have had some seriously negative comments lately, even from regular readers, whom I have now lost. And not just about this post, about my blog in general. Makes a person think.
Yes, I imagine it has been a busy and hard time. You’ll make it through flying high and attain your goal!πŸ˜ƒ

    • Charlie definitely know more than he’s saying, so I’m going to have to force it out of him. Lena I’m sure only know about the treasure. We will have to be careful though.πŸ€”πŸ˜³πŸ˜ΎπŸ˜ΎπŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

  3. Oh, oh! I sense trouble brewing. Charlie definitely knows what’s going on. I enjoy your blog and with any blog, different strokes for different folks. IMO, a blog should be what you want it to be, and if readers don’t like it then they don’t have to read it. β˜•οΈβ˜•οΈπŸ₯ž πŸ§‡ πŸ₯“πŸ˜ΊπŸ€¨

    • Yes, I agree, Charlie knows things and I have to find out what it is. There’s more than a treasure hunt going on here.πŸ˜³πŸ˜ΎπŸ˜ΎπŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ
Thanks Eugenia, I appreciate that. I know that not everyone will like every post which is why I try to add some different things. But you should see some of the nasty comments I have received the last 3 months. I mean, they were bad, even from some regular readers who have left now. But their comments also affected other people who also left. And their comments always come at night when I can’t deal with them. Yep, that’s my thought too, if people don’t like it, don’t read it, so simple. But why tear someone down? Oh well.
Thanks so much for your support Eugenia, always nice to have you here!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ΊπŸŒžβ˜•β˜•

      • I don’t understand how people can be so rude, especially since you don’t write about politics, religion, etc. I’ve heard of other bloggers getting nasty comments and for no reason. It’s best to ignore them, IMO. πŸ’ͺ

      • Yes, that’s what I’ll be doing, just too bad they take readers with them. Sometimes I wonder if these people just go around trying to ruin blogs. Well, I’m here to stay as long as there are people who will read!πŸ˜πŸ˜ΊπŸŒ™β˜•β˜•
