Morning Coffee At Steve’s Country #26.

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a most wonderful Christmas day! The coffee is ready, just help yourself and relax with us again this morning. It’s milder this morning with a temp of 12F (-11C), plus it’s cloudy with those lazy kind of snowflakes slowly falling and twirling through the air until they gently land. There’s not enough snow to be a problem, but it is that kind of snow that looks pretty and peaceful. The birds are busily eating and chirping out there this morning. There was just a few each of the pine and evening grosbeaks this morning and they have actually been here for about an hour now. There are nervous birds though, especially the evening grosbeaks and fly off for no reason at all it seems. If the pine grosbeaks are here by themselves, then they will just sit and eat.

A bay of the river.

There are about 15 chickadees today, same as yesterday afternoon, which is the highest number yet. I haven’t seen Jasper around this morning, or any other squirrel. Both the hairy and the downy woodpeckers have been here for their breakfast. I put out some fresh suet this morning as the suet cages were nearly empty. I haven’t seen the nuthatches yet today and that’s kind of odd, they usually show up quite early. Theodore hasn’t been here either, but then, he’s never too regular anyway. Mama, one of my deer friends, was here yesterday and came running up to me right away to say hi. She likes to be rubbed on her nose, well, not really her nose, I guess it’s more like her upper jaw. Okay, rub, rub.

Following from the bay up the south side of the river.

Now, I tell her, I need to get past, she’s blocking my walkway. She looks at me. I try again, she just turns her head to the side a bit. Now, how does one move a 250 pound animal out of the way? Friendly as they can be, they are still a wild animal, and can be dangerous. Something that always needs to be remembered. But it’s also necessary to never show fear, because that makes them nervous, and even more dangerous. With one kick of her front leg she can knock a 180 pound man off his feet, and then trample him to death. It has happened. So I’m always careful with these critters. So I just start walking and she kindly moves out of the way so I can walk past. Thank you I tell her. I hope you all have a beautiful day and God bless!

Steve and Muffin.

      • I don’t have any cookies here and instead of hot chocolate, I had steeped tea this morning. Tim’s was open today. I also bought half a dozen donuts. I had a coupon – otherwise I don’t buy their food.

      • It’s too bad that they don’t have a gluten-free option. I’m still addicted to their steeped tea, sadly, but I found frugal ways to save money this year. I use their rewards/points for free drinks and get deals of the week on their app. I also made $75 worth of Tim cards this year for doing surveys. It’s not much and I may get a lot of spam emails but it’s $75 that I didn’t have to spend. πŸ’°

      • Nothing wrong with enjoying their tea, I have never had it actually, though I have had their mint tea, or is it peppermint? That’s not a bad amount of money, that’s a lot of steeped tea! I haven’t even been to Tim’s since August, and to think I used to go there nearly every day.πŸ˜³β˜•β˜•β˜•β˜•

      • I think you should try steeped tea at least once. It’s gluten-free, just saying 🀭 I get mine with 2 milks 1/2 sugar.

I’ve had their peppermint tea before but I buy it by the box occasionally (never by the cup). If you do buy it by the cup, you can save money by asking for a cup of hot water with a peppermint tea bag on the side. I used to work at Tim Hortons. They charge for the cup of hot water + the tea bag so it only costs a few cents compared to the regular price they charge for coffee and tea.

      • Hmm, that’s interesting, I will have to try that at Tim’s. I have bought their peppermint tea by the box, it does have a nice flavor. But with regular tea I’ll stick with my own, I rarely drink regular tea anymore, mostly herbal teas and mostly mint or raspberry leaf tea. I used to have a nice antique tea pot for steeping tea and it was nice. But I still prefer using a coffee maker, though it’s best to have one just for tea.
        Have a great day Hilary!πŸ˜πŸ˜Ίβ˜•β˜•

      • Nothing beats steeped tea from Tim’s. Trust me, I tried. It does have a strong, rich flavor and is much stronger than herbal tea. However, it’s still worth trying at least once! πŸ€—

      • I believe you, but I have really gotten away from it now and prefer herbal teas, pure ones not mixtures, I really enjoy the delicate and fresh flavors plus they do have some health benefits too which is nice. But enjoy your steeped tea!πŸ˜ƒβ˜•β˜•

      • I calculated that I spend >$300 per year on steeped tea. This isn’t including the donuts and other discounted items I buy from Tim’s. Never thought I was an emotional eater but apparently I am. Steeped tea is definitely emotional/psychological and something I like, but perhaps I need to take a step back in 2021. I happen to have a lot of herbal tea in my cupboard which I hardly use. πŸ™‡β€β™€οΈ

      • I can’t believe it, I was just about to send my comment to you and the whole thing disappeared!😲 Never had that happen before, how strange.πŸ™„ Anyway, as I said but didn’t get a chance to say, if you enjoy the tea, then why not get it? The extras, on the other hand…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜Ή Oh well. I like to have at least one cup of herbal tea each day, usually it’s my raspberry leaf which I really enjoy. Good vitamins too. Have a nice evening Hilary!😁😸

      • That is true. It’s $300 of joy, so why not? In the new year I will do my best to use up the tea that I have in the cupboard and try to make some new recipes as well. Have a nice evening as well, Steve! πŸ™‚

      • Every January I try to use up the ingredients in my cupboard and refrain from buying more stuff until we use it up. Today I found 3 packs of jello which I completely forgot about. I bet there’s more stuff where that came from. I highly recommend a frugal January to β€œdetox” after the holidays.

      • Hmm, I was planning to do that too, I’m sure there’s some surprises at the back of my cupboards, hopefully not bad surprises though! But I do need to clean out those cupboards and get things in proper order again.

  1. Great pics ! Is this a different doe ? Or the one who stops by with her young ones ? That is such a treasure to have in your yard ! Try to rest as much as possible ! β˜•οΈβ˜•οΈπŸ™‚πŸ˜»πŸŽ„

    • This doe doesn’t have any young, but she has been coming around the longest and is the largest doe in the area.
Thanks so much! I always try, doesn’t always work!πŸ˜πŸ™„πŸ˜Έ

  2. Good morning and thank you for the morning coffee! Looks like all your critter friends showed up for breakfast with Steve! We had deer that would walk down the middle of the street when we lived in Jacksonville, FL. Our house backed up to a reserve and every now and then they would venture out and around. β˜•οΈβ˜•οΈπŸ³ 🧈 πŸ₯ž πŸ§‡ πŸ₯“ 🦌
