Coffee At Steve’s Country #5.

Hello everyone on this beautiful sunny day! I went shopping this morning so I’m late today, always happens on shopping day. Anyway, the coffee is hot, help yourself, sit back and relax! Muffin is waiting for…um, she’s waiting….she’s after money again. She can smell money a mile away I’m sure. I can’t leave any lying around or she will take it and hide it somewhere. There, that’s taken care of now. The chickadees were here bright and early, but I left shortly after so I don’t know what kind of action was taking place out here.

Close to the beginning of the path.

I put peanuts out for the blue jays before I left and there was still lots sitting there when I got back, and I didn’t put out as many as normal. Only chickadees and nuthatches are here right now, so I guess it will be a slow day. It was sure busy yesterday though. Until the rock doves showed up and scared all the grosbeaks away. Look at that, the grosbeaks are coming in right now, lots of them, how nice! I’m sure there is two different flocks of them that come around, one has mostly males and the other mostly females. Both flocks are about the same size with about 30 to 35 birds. All come in the morning.

Walking along, still near the beginning.

Then the redpolls show up once they are gone and stay most of the afternoon going through all those shells getting whatever they can from them. It was so nice yesterday, got up to 2C (36F), just enough to melt a bit of snow on my deck, not enough to melt snow generally, though it did get soft in sunny places. So I decided to go for a walk down to the river. A lot of people have been walking down there recently, at least about 2/3 of the way.

A lot of dead trees in this part, great for the woodpeckers.

Then most traffic went a different direction to follow the loop trail. But a few people went down to the river where I like to go so it wasn’t bad walking, until the way back. The sun was shining on the one hill making the snow quite soft so my feet slid on every step, which makes for hard walking. Good exercise though. Getting off the path, which I did a couple of times to measure the snow depth, got me into deeper snow. It was 15 inches (37cm) deep once off the path. Not bad really. The pics today show parts of the path that I walk. Tomorrow I will show pics from the river. I hope you all have a great day and God bless!
