Coffee At Steve’s Country #47. Play A Game.

Hello everyone! I’m late this morning, I had to go out early and get some things done. But the coffee is ready, it’s another cold morning although it’s supposed to warm up a bit more today, back to another cold night and then it should start to warm up for us, and that will be nice. I must admit, it’s hard getting out for my walking time each day when it’s cold like this, so my walks have been much shorter. I hope to get back down to the river this week though. Still not much bird activity, hopefully that will change as it warms up this week. Since there isn’t much to talk about with the birds today, why not play a game…or two? That is, look at a couple more vintage/antique games from my collection.

Let’s start with…the game of “Authors”. This game actually came out in the 1800’s and had many changes to the box design over the years. The one I have came out somewhere between 1910 and 1920. It was a simple card game where the cards were shuffled and dealt out to the players. The idea was to collect all the cards for a book, always 4 per book and the player with the most books at the end would be the winner. Players took turns calling on one other player for a certain card, if that player had the card they would give it to the player who called, and he would then keep calling until he got an answer of no from a player. Then the next player to the left would call.

Then we have the game of “Buzz”. This is mainly a game for younger players, this one came out in 1955 and cost $1, and there were 3 other similar games in the series. Each player has “loads” of honey, little cardboard discs and players would take turns with the spinner. If, for example, you were ‘clover field’ and the spinner landed on ‘clover 2’, you could then put 2 loads of honey in your hive. However, you could also lose turns and others could take your honey as well. So it wasn’t just simply filling your hive, the game could take a while to complete. This particular game doesn’t look like it was used much, about the only thing that shows any wear to it is the spinner. It would actually be fun to have a vintage game night with adults playing some of these simple games, it might be quite fun! Anyway, that’s it for now, I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

    • Old games are a lot of fun, both playing and displaying them, they are usually quite colorful. Plus they don’t weigh much. Interested in some nice old tins? By Friday I might not need my parka for walking to the river! I might have to exercise my legs a bit after 2 weeks of not doing much! Have a nice evening!πŸ˜πŸ˜ΈπŸŒ™β˜•β˜•

      • I did! Very much! It’s an interesting subject and a fascinating look into the game business and what people were interested in during that time period.

      • That’s for sure! People didn’t have all the activities to do that we have today so these games were an important part of their lives. Game nights with family and friends was a common thing and game makers were constantly coming out with something new. I have even come up with my own board game, I just need to make a prototype and then find someone to manufacture it for me. Really, I did come up with a game!

      • Yep, just need to finalize the board design. Only problem is then I need to get it patented before showing it to anyone so someone doesn’t steal my idea. Takes a long time and it’s costly.😬

      • That is true. Maybe I should make some special edition ones myself and then the game people would be paying me millions for my game.πŸ€”πŸ€‘πŸ€‘πŸ€‘

      • Yep. I think this is my best idea yet. My last idea didn’t go anywhere, though all it really needed was a little push. Speaking of ideas, it’s time for me to quit start marching toward bed. Talk tomorrow Dusty!πŸ˜πŸŒ™πŸ˜΄
