For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning to all of you! I hope you are all feeling well today. Grab yourself a coffee, or tea, and relax for a few minutes with Muffin and I. Muffin had a good run and playtime this morning so she’s a bit tired out and waiting to curl up on someone’s lap. Right now she’s curled up with me. It’s much nicer this morning with a temperature of -6F (-21C) and the sun is beginning to shine on the tops of the trees. The male hairy woodpecker was here first again, he seems to have taken over as the ‘early bird’ of the day. Plus there is one lonely chickadee out there. No other birds have shown up, oops, wrong, a downy woodpecker has just arrived. I thought with the return of nicer weather it would also mean the return of the birds. Not so far anyway. Baxter and Betty have just shown up now as well. I had 14 blue jays in November, now just 2. Where did they all go? They might come back yet.
Now for games: The Game of Touring. The top pic shows two of the many different boxes used for this game over the years. It came out in the early 1900’s once cars started becoming more popular. The rules of the game remained the same though pictures on the cards changed over the years to keep them up to date. The box on the left is from 1937 and the one on the right is from 1958. It’s a card game and both are complete. The idea is to be the first to get 110 miles. There are cards to help you get miles and others that will take miles away from you, such as when your car breaks down. You can also miss turns, such as stopping for gas. So it’s not that easy to get to 110 miles in a hurry.
The Game of Blow Football. This game had different boxes over the years, this one is from about 1940. Although a simple game where you try to score goals on your opponent, I can see where it could get quite wild! The blow straws are a very hard pressed paper, unfortunately I am missing one in my game. Basically the teams try to blow the football across the table, or floor, or wherever it’s set up, and score a goal. I can see where that ball would go flying all over the place, it’s quite light weight. Like I say, it would be a wild game for kids to play, but I think adults could have a wild time with it as well. That’s it for our games today, but more will be coming. Have a wonderful day and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

Another two Iβve never heard of!

The Blow Football actually comes from England, I forgot to mention that! But I don’t know when they stopped making it. I never heard of them either until I came across them, then I had to do some research on them, which wasn’t easy for the Blow Football.

I’m a beginner Uncle Steve π You know that, I have learnt one language already to speak and read and understand. Now Hindi is taking a bit more time. French I’ve just started with alphabets pronounciation π easy but challenging one, 2021 is definitely making my head bigger with new languages . Thanks for this little conversation, I’ll try to remember these words…Merci, Bonjour π₯

Bonjour mon ami! You’re doing great Simon! At one time I could read and write French very well and could speak it quite well too, but since no one else I knew could speak French then I lost what I did know. So it’s like starting over again now. Don’t try to push yourself too fast, concentrate more on one language before getting started too much on another, usually works out better that way. But have fun with it anyway! Bonne journee!

Yes Steve, I’m doing that, Taking time for Hindi, this is a common language in our country and yet 85% of the population in my state don’t know this language π I’m gng to take it slowπ and should listen more to understand that π. Sure Steve, I’ll definitely play with it π. Tou Aussi π₯

Actually across the country 55% of.people could talk that language, here the problem is each state has their own language and the government wants to have a common language π how funny π for a state like I live in government should think about it π it will take another 100 years to spread that common language π

Each state has their own language??π² That must get confusing!π³ Maybe they should just pick one language and everyone learn that one language.π€ Something like Australian, it’s close by.π€π

You won’t believe, people refuse to give up their own language π Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Marati, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kongani, Odia, Bhili, Nepali, Kashmiri, Ladaki, and few more other small languages and finally Hindi. Here major spoken language are considered to be English, then they think it’s Hindi π they think ππ It’s pretty hard to ask everyone to learn it π politics involved ππ

Wow,π³ that is a lot, but you do have a big country with a lot of people. Muffin says the whole world should learn to speak meow,πΊ so much easier she says. I don’t know, I find it hard to learn, the same meow can mean so many different things.ππΉ I can see where it would be hard getting everyone to learn another language, most people would say “what’s the point”?π€π Have fun with it anyway Simon!ππΈ

It’s a card game where you aretrying to reach 1000 miles and you get gas and flat tires and can get a puncture-proof so your opponents can’t get you with a flat tire. It’s one we’ve played often before.

It does sound like the same kind of game, except you need more miles. Probably never sold it up this way.

I don’t know, really. The name and the very brief indicate an origin in France. One of the moves is called a coup fourre. I found the instruction book online. We always had a lot of fun playing it.
