Steve’s Bird Of The Day #16.
Hello everyone! Here we are with another one of our woodpecker species. This is the “pileated woodpecker”, and this one is a big bird, a little larger than a crow. It’s a spectacular bird with it’s large red crest which both male and female have, this one is molting a bit. This is the male which can be told by it’s red “whiskers” stretching from the base of it’s bill to it’s cheek. The female is black in that area. These big birds can dig out some huge holes in trees going after grubs, like this one has found, and ants. Woodpeckers, however, never kill a tree, it’s the insects that the woodpecker is trying to get that kill the tree. I have seen huge holes, more than 20 years old, made by this woodpecker species in large pines and yet the pine is still growing healthy. Well, I hope you all have a great day and God bless!

No.. not at all… you’re running slow!! Not slow at running! Big difference! I did get home a little late tonight. I had to visit the Dr. Office today for my 6 month med renewal.

They stay open that late? Our Dr office is closed by 4. Hey, you’ll need to find a new doctor when you move to the tropics. Do they have any down there?🤔😳

Yep, they stay open until 6 I think. Yep, they have nice warm clinics in the tropics! I’ve been to them. As a mattet of fact… I have a clinic about a block from my apartment down there.

Yes, I have one. Im not sure if he comes to this clinic, but it’s the same ARC clinic. They have my medical records also.

I thought so too. Walked down to the river since it was supposed to be so nice today. Was a bit colder than what they said, should have checked before I went. Glad I was dressed warm.🙄😬

It was supposed to be, but…wait, let me check. Oh, it was supposed to be 17F, but only made it to 10F. With the wind it was -5F.

The temp is going the wrong way!! It should be starting to warm up now!

It is warming up, should be 35F on Monday, then it starts to cool off Wednesday and the following week it’s back to very cold again.😬🥶🥶🧊

No need to worry, this is part of our go green initiative. We’re hiring squirrels to run them, the cost is peanuts compared to regular fuel sources.

I had that doubt for some time, what happens to these holes 🤔 do they give it for rent ? or for neighbours ?🤔 or it becomes a family hole 😉😁 Nice information about the woodpecker ..😍

Many times other birds will use these big holes for their nests,🕊🐦🐣🦉 so the woodpeckers help birds who can’t dig out holes themselves.😁😸
