Coffee At Steve’s Country #80.

Good morning everyone and Happy Sunday! Coffee is ready, nice and hot, time to relax for a few minutes if you can. There’s nothing like the scent of fresh coffee in the morning. Great way to start the day. But there is tea for the tea lover’s as well. It is a fantastic morning, the sun is shining on the trees again with that early morning golden glow. It is 45F (7C) this morning, our mildest morning since last fall, and it smells so nice and spring fresh out there as well. Crows were cawing early, so were the Canada geese which have been back for 3 days now. Turkeys were gobbling loud and clear, a sound that has become common since last summer, yet was totally non existent prior to that. I mean, no one even thought about wild turkeys before last year. But they are a nice addition to the wildlife of the area.

Looking forward to the flowers of summer, like this hollyhock.

Baxter is out there calling this morning, sounds nice. Baxter and Betty are the only two blue jays that come here regularly now, though Benson and Beth show up sometimes too. The blue jays have scattered out to their summer territories now, they will start nesting soon. Nice watching Baxter and Betty, he still comes along and feeds her each day. And they sit right side by side so they are touching each other. Once Betty is on the nest Baxter will look after her well, feeding her each day and if she calls because trouble is near, he will be there to protect her flying in fast!

And the bright beauty of a summer marigold.

There’s Jasper and Sylvie now laying side by side on a large branch of that maple tree, soaking up the morning sunshine together. They are having a nice peaceful morning, no rush to do anything right away, just relaxing, watching the sun rising above the trees. Only one chickadee here this morning, never see more than 2 or 3 at a time now. Like the blue jays, they have moved on to their summer territories too, busy making their nests. They hollow out a hole in a tree for their nest, normally a dead tree since their beaks are not strong enough to dig into live trees. One important reason for leaving dead trees in a forest, birds need them, many different species nest in dead trees. My feeders are almost silent though, waiting for the return of our summer birds. They will soon be here. I hope you all have a nice relaxing Sunday and God bless!

Steve and Muffin.

  1. Good morning and Happy Sunday Steve! Thank you for the hot coffee! Yes, I also love the smell of coffee. The crows are cawing here also and the birds are singing. It is so exciting to hear and see how Godโ€™s creatures instinctively prepare for a change in the season. It is also nice to hear how they take care of each other and sit back and enjoy the day, thanks…hmmm, a reminder for me, I mean all of us. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thank you for setting us up to have a relaxing day, Steve! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒž. Have a wonderful and relaxing day Steve and Muffin! ๐Ÿ˜โ˜•๏ธ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ˜

    • Hi Beverly! Your comment seemed to disappear on me for a bit, but here we have it at last, I knew I could find it, just takes a bit. Yes, it is so fun watching the birds and other animals and how they act with each other. A lot of times we don’t really think that they do these things, at least I never did until I started watching and studying birds years ago. I wish I could have gotten a pic of the two squirrels lying beside each other on that big branch, but there was just too many other branches in the way, I just couldn’t focus in on them. And I’m still trying to get a pic of Baxter and Betty sitting close together like they do, that would be so fantastic! It has been a great day and we have been enjoying our first spring rain of the season this afternoon, but hopefully it stops before the temp goes below freezing tonight. Have a great week Beverly!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ธโ˜•โ˜•๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒง๐ŸŒง

      • Hi Steve! Odd on my comment disappearing for a while…glad you got it back. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Yes, it is amazing to watch them. Sometimes I watch the squirrels in my yard, they are so funny and amazingly smart. One time two huge crows were teaming up on a squirrel. One crow landed on the fence where the squirrel was going to get an acorn they had buried in my yard. Another crow got close to it on the branch of the oak tree. The squirrel froze and the crow on the fence got closer. Then the squirrel scrambled to the tree and just clung to the trunk and did not go up to the branches. The crows then flew away at the same time! Way to go ๐Ÿฟ!!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Yes, that would be amazing if you could get those pics, but you get front roll seat and that is even better than a pic!

That is wonderful you have had a great day! Same here…came home and we have also had the first spring rain and the temperature is dropping so no outside fun, but that is okay. Met some great new neighbors (next door) moving in with this cold rain. Also hoping it stops soon before the temp drops overnight. Thanks Steve, have a great week as well! ๐Ÿ˜โ˜•๏ธ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒจ๐ŸŒ™

      • Actually it’s not that odd, I’ve had the same happen with other’s comments too over the last few months. They nearly always turn up, though some never do.
Our squirrels are afraid of the crows too, at least most are anyway. But the chipmunks are sure not, they will chase those big ol crows away. And the crows leave too! Those little guys have sharp teeth, they could cause serious damage to a crow leg or foot!
Yes, it’s nice to see it, but I like to share what I see so others get to see it too. And that way people don’t think I’m crazy. I’m sure people don’t think I’m crazy though. They know it. The evidence is too conclusive!๐Ÿคช
Oh my, moving in the rain, that’s terrible, had to do it once, everything got wet.๐Ÿ˜ฒ Not quite sure which is worse, moving in the rain, or moving when it’s -30F and windy.๐Ÿค” I did that once too,๐Ÿ™„ only because I didn’t have a choice.๐Ÿ˜ฌ Sigh. I have moved a lot.๐Ÿ˜ณ In all kinds of weather.๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜น I have slowed down now, fortunately, but…๐Ÿ™„
        Have a wonderful week Beverly!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜บ๐ŸŒž

      • Hi Steve, yes, I am seeing that now. My comment in your โ€œPoem Postโ€ disappeared. I put another one in there, hope you get it.

Yes, it seems they have good reason to be afraid, those two crows were up to no good that day. Good for the chipmunks…too bad we do not have any in my neighborhood. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Funny Steve, we believe you when you say you saw them. ๐Ÿคช The pics would be nice to see, but we believe you. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™„. Lol

Not fun on moving when wet or cold. It turned out both for them. The rain turned into wet snow. Looks like about 6 inches accumulation. Yes, moving is challenging. Glad you have slowed down, but things happen…๐Ÿ™„

Thanks Steve, have a wonderful week as well! ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒž

      • Yes. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. My neighbor did the sidewalk and most of the driveway, but there was so much heavy snow piled on the car that I had to use shovel on the car! ๐Ÿ˜‚. We had nearly a foot of snow on the ground. โ„๏ธโ„๏ธโ„๏ธ Oh well, it is melting now. My poor tulips…weโ€™ll see if they make it. ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ˜

      • A foot of snow?? (Steve faints๐Ÿคช). Yes, poor tulips, hopefully they will survive. Maybe you could try growing them inside?๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜น Oops, I’m terrible. That’s why I gave up on tulips up here, they just don’t make it.

      • Your comment went to spam,๐Ÿ˜ณ which seems to be happening more lately, even for my regular commenters.๐Ÿค” But I have talked to other bloggers who have or had the same problem. Apparently it does clear up after a while. A bit frustrating though. Oh well.๐Ÿคช
It’s interesting that the chipmunks are not afraid of the crows and the squirrels are, the chipmunks are a lot smaller than the squirrels.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ณ
Oh my, 6 inches,๐Ÿ˜ฒ I hope that’s not what is coming this way on Wednesday, that would be so sad.๐Ÿ˜• Though not uncommon.
Yes, I haven’t moved for 5 years now, yay! I used to move, on average, every 14 months for several years. I enjoyed it then actually,๐Ÿ˜€ but not now.๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ™„
Thanks Beverly, hope your day is going well!๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ˜บ

      • Yes, it is a perplexing problem. I can imagine the frustration.

That is funny on the chipmunks and yet they run away from the squirrels.๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿค”

That is wonderful that you have not had to move in a while. Yes, the excitement of moving wore on me as well. ๐Ÿ™„. I have been in this place nearly 3 years. Thanks Steve, took off work to go to the funeral service of my friendโ€™s mother. It was a beautiful service, but very emotional. Worked later to help the company with the work volume lost while I was gone. Otherwise, it was a good day. Hope your day went well! ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒž

      • Well, the chipmunks don’t fare well in an actual fight with the squirrels. Those red squirrels are quite the fighter, they will even push out the much larger gray squirrels. But they don’t seem to like big birds. Kind of strange. But that works well for the chipmunks, as I will mention in my next coffee post.
Yes, it was a beautiful day,๐ŸŒž though rather painful, but I get days like that so nothing unusual.๐Ÿ™„
Have a good evening, must sign off for the night.๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒ™๐Ÿ˜ธ

  3. So that tea is for me, I mean a share to me too โ˜บ๏ธ Baxter & Betty a good pair to entertain you โ˜บ๏ธ Jasper and Sylvie on the other side. That’s right, we needed dead trees, trees are the most precious resource than diamond. Do you believe, if there is no dead trees most species on earth including us would have not survived the massive extinction happened before on earth. Enjoy the beautiful Sunday, don’t waste it like me sleeping on daytime ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚.
