For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hi everyone! Oops, this is late, usually I schedule these posts so they come out at a certain time. I didn’t hit the schedule button. Sigh. I’m still learning, usually I just write and publish. Here we are with the female “common goldeneye”, there are two in this pic, with the brown heads and gray bodies, with one male. The female nests in holes in trees, usually left over from a pileated woodpecker, just like the merganser. So they can be quite high off the ground again and once again the little ones jump out of the nest and onto the ground, no matter what the height, then follow the mother to water, usually a lake or river that has abundant food and clear water. The female lays generally 6 to 9 eggs. I hope you have a great day and God bless!

Cute ducks ! Still amazing that the babies do not get hurt when leaving the nest ! Sleep well both of you ! ☕️☕️😻🙄😴

Yes, it is quite amazing, but they are just too lightweight, not much more than some feathers falling.😂 Have a great day!😁😸🌞📷

So cute! I always wonder how come they’re not cold in that freezing water during winter time 🦆 🥶

Due to a protective oily substance on their feathers the water never gets close to their skin, so they stay warm. Their feet are interesting, like many birds that can stand on ice and not freeze, the temp in their legs and feet is lowered to just above freezing and there is a unique way of how the blood flows through their feet to make sure they stay at that temp and not freeze.😁🦆

That’s wonderful! I guess is just me freezing when I see them in the water 🥶😆 Seems that every being is made in such a way to resist to their habitat without issues 😉 What a wonderful world we have 🥰

Yes, each animal is well suited and made to survive in it’s own habitat and most can actually adapt to a variety of habitats as well therefore ensuring their survival. Yes, this world is indeed wonderfully made!😃😸🌞🌎🌏

I would never have known where these ducks nest with their eggs. I better not try jumping out of any nests. My aging bones wouldn’t appreciate the jolt!

Yep, those little bundles of fluff just kind of drop like feathers, no way to get hurt. I don’t think anyone would want to jump from 50 or more feet off the ground! Can be up to 100 ft.

Little critters are created the way they are for a reason so they can survive! Great pic, Steve! 🦆☕️☕️📸🌻 🌞

I love the new one! It’s the same brand as my older one but much improved! It has a lot more memory and it has a non-glare screen. What a difference! 😊

Cool pics! How many of the chicks actually survive? Do you know?
LikeLiked by 1 person
They lay 1 -3 eggs, 1 chick usually survives, but then, as a whole about 1/3 of all chicks raised, die in their first month on their own.

It’s amazing how they manage to thrive with that high of a mortality rate.. Did you have a rainy day today?

Sorry, wrong bird. about 2 or 3 survive to adult.
No, nice and sunny mostly, a few clouds around this morning.

From what I have seen down at the river, few chicks survive. We had 41, but it felt colder with that wind.

What kind of reply is that? How do I answer? Speaking of answers, I’m in trouble with my story.

Why? I don’t understand 🤔 Do you mean in danger from unknown sources? Or story line issues?😬

Yep, surprises me too. Usually I have the ending done by now and just need to aim things towards that ending. Simple. Decided to try something different and just do it one chapter at a time right to the end and see what happens. Now I know why I didn’t do that before.🤔😳😳😳😳

I was!! You got this silly! The nice thing about story telling is you can make it end anyway you want and at anytime you want! See🤓?? Easy Peasey!😁

Wow, why didn’t I think of that? Of course there’s always the little detail of people throwing eggs and rotten tomatoes at me if my ending isn’t good.😳😳🥚🥚🍅🍅

Them make it a competition and let them submit their own endings??😲😉 Then they can see how easy it is!😁😊
