Coffee Time! #93. Happy Monday!

Good morning to everyone on this beautiful Monday! It was so nice this morning, the sun was shining with it’s golden rays touching the trees. Then the clouds moved in. But it’s still beautiful out there. The birds are active though my neighbors were probably not too thrilled this morning. Some of them don’t like me feeding the birds as it is, and feeding crows and gulls is just too much. Those birds can be noisy at times. I try to explain I don’t feed the crows, but because I feed other birds then they naturally will get some of that food too. I can’t stop them. I do feed the gulls, and sometimes they do get noisy. But that’s not my fault, really.

This is Sir Henry, finally got a pic of him, and this year he has brought a mate with him. Now I need another name.

Like this morning, just as I put the food out for my gulls an eagle flew by, but he decided to just circle around for a bit and then land in a tree over on the next street. Gulls don’t like eagles, because eagles eat gulls. So the gulls were flying around trying to chase the eagle away and of course they were squawking rather loudly. For quite a while. Since that eagle had no intention of leaving his treetop lookout and get chased by what was now 8 noisy gulls. Only 4 of those gulls come here for food. I’m sure to hear about that noise today from one of my neighbors. That eagle, I’m sure it’s the same one, comes around nearly every day upsetting the gulls. Hmm, a hawk just flew through the yard and scared all my birds.

One grackle has shown up. I named him Grover.

That wasn’t nice. He didn’t even stay long enough for me to get a picture of it. I don’t even know what it was, though I’m thinking it was a sharp-shinned hawk. They are a bird hawk, and they don’t often miss. There is a male and female purple finch here now, they showed up yesterday afternoon. This particular male is a nice brilliant red, really stands out among the birds. I like those purple finches. For a small bird they can certainly eat a lot of seeds. My featured image at the top is a female redpoll, the only one left now, she looked rather lonely sitting there yesterday, so I took some pictures of her. I was surprised to see her here still since all the others have gone. It’s cloudy, but it’s a beautiful morning. I hope you have a wonderful day and God bless!

Steve and Muffin.

    • Oh my, that varies a lot depending on the birds that come around. I didn’t use much this winter because the grosbeaks were not around much, they eat a lot. I was buying 20 pounds a month. If there is lots of grosbeaks and finches that would increase to 50 pounds a month. I have had winters with so many birds that I was buying 150 pounds a month! A 50 pound bag of sunflower seeds for birds is 25 dollars so it’s not that bad.
