Coffee Time #94. I’m Being Watched.

Good morning everyone on this beautiful Tuesday! Grab yourself some coffee and relax while I tell about my morning. The raccoons have been out and running around for a while now, so I have to bring my hanging feeders inside at night. Now, there’s one I made which is a bit more awkward to bring in and I noticed the raccoons could barely reach it. So I put it out a bit farther and figured it would be safe, so I have been leaving in outside and just bringing in my hanging tube feeder. No problems lately. Good, it works. I go out this morning at 5:45 to put food out for the birds, it’s daylight and the birds are waking up.

When I got outside however, I got this feeling which happens sometimes. It’s like I’m being watched. I look around but there’s nothing out there except some small birds. I hung up the tube feeder, then noticed my other feeder was ripped apart. Crazy raccoons, now I have to fix it. The gulls showed up, so I went back inside and got food for them. Still had that weird feeling though. At 7 am there was a bunch of noise on the deck. Muffin jumped up to the window and was immediately scared. That means a bear.

Sure enough, a bear was out there and broke my tube feeder to pieces. Sigh. Now I have to buy another feeder. So much for bringing them inside to keep them safe at night. This is during the day. Sigh. Then what does he do? He lies down on my deck, kind of curled up and started to wash himself. On my deck. After breaking 2 of my feeders. It was obviously this critter that broke the other feeder, not the raccoons. And this bear is the reason for that weird feeling. He was out there earlier watching me, I just didn’t see him. Happens every time I get that feeling, either a bear or a wolf. Now this was too much, so out I went and chased him off my deck.

This wasn’t a large bear, just a smaller one, but any bear is dangerous, they are wild animals and should never be trusted. They will generally run from people, like this one did, which is amazing considering their size and strength. But that word “generally” is important, because they don’t always run from people. Bears do kill people, up in this area there were 2 people killed by black bears last year. Anyway, I got a few pics, but they are not very good as you can see. These are old windows and doing an angle shot just doesn’t work so good. Sorry for the messy deck too, haven’t done my spring cleaning yet! I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

    • Yep, but it worries me a little bit. Especially for walking. There must be a big bear around too, likely with a cub, not good! It’s a beautiful day for a walk!😳🐻😀😺🌞🚶‍♂️🌲🚶‍♂️🌳🚶‍♂️

      • How can you escape then? hey not to worry that cub must have been escaped from ita parents because of a bad joke like this… ‘Hey dad! I’m hungry!’ then dad said ‘Well, nice to meet you hungry’ the look on the cub face, poor he pleaded ‘Leave me in orphanage’ then it escaped … to Steve’s backyard 😂😂😂.

      • Yep, he’s a 2 year old that likely just got kicked out by his mother this spring.🐻 And she likely has another cub,😬 that’s the way it works, every 2 years.🤪 But if the mother and new cub are around, that’s the biggest problem.😳😬🐻🐻

      • 😂that means it’s time you have to introduce yourself, faking it, Hi I am Steve, the Bear from Canada, due to severe skin issue I lost hair😋😄😂. I would have tried that, may be you should too, or, how about the classic bear hug costume that is made of spikes 😉 so safe to go for a walk, but that could be little heavy for you.🤔 maybe, why I come up with worst ideas, hmm, I should better go bed now.🤓

      • Hmm, a metal suit of armor, not a bad idea,🤔 but hard to walk in those things😬🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️ and if I fell down I would never get back up😲 and I would starve to death🤪 and turn into a pile of bones☠ in a metal garbage can🗑 which wouldn’t be very much fun🙄 but thanks anyway Simon.😠 I think.🤔🙄 Are you trying to get rid of me?🤔😳😂😹

      • 🤓Will I ever think of such thing 🤔 No way, I want you to be safe, except my ideas are bad.😁 maybe you can say a buried joke to a bear, so that It can’t bear the bear joke and run away 😄😉how about that, we can also laugh at it 😂😂

  4. Wow Steve, so sorry about your feeders. 🙁 I know it is as much of a blessing for you to feed the birds as well as it is for them. Praying for your safety 😬and that it will all work out with you replacing the feeders. Also praying for your safety to go on your walks, I know that is important to you. 🚶‍♂️ The weather is warm and there is so much beauty outside. ☘️🌺🐿🦆. Staying inside would not be good. Have a nice evening! 😁🌙

    • Thanks Beverly, yes, I bought one new feeder, the other one I have to fix, but it’s still usable right now, it just allows the larger birds to get on now.🙄 The worst part is I have to put the feeders out so early, and leave them out so late, so obviously at times when that bear could be around. Not fun, I will need to be careful then for sure.🙀🐻 And on my walks, right now I can see quite well as there is no leaves out yet, but that will change soon.😬 Yep, it’s important to get out as much as possible.       • You’re welcome Steve. That is good you have the new one and one that can be fixed. Yes, definitely be careful. As you have said, prayer first, bear spray and being alert. 🙏 Yes, we have to get out and see the beauty outside and not let fear overcome us. You’re welcome and thank you Steve! 😁🌙🌞

      • Yep, prayer first always. But also be prepared, we do what we can, but still trusting God. The bear was on the deck again a half hour ago. This is not good, I can’t bring the feeders in this early and I can’t wait too late in the morning. Not sure what to do now.🤔🙀🐻

    It is slightly funny that he cleans himself on your deck lol … well since you hadn’t cleaned it yet anyway he figured was good place lol

    How creepy he watching you though 😮 ohhh that sends chills

    I have flashbacks of Maine and Lake Tahoe lol ✌️

    When I would visit family in Maine … I used to tell them they live in the creepy forest … first of all Maine is all forest lol … and then they all lived down 10 mile dirt roads, nothing is ever open at night lol … and when I would walk from car to house… I would hear things in the forest – branches cracking or whatever – they had all kinds of animals and it be dark!!

    They had this one ?? Umm fox?? 🦊 … red tailed fox maybe? It’s scream was like a woman being murdered 😮 and they would have fog set in and that fox would scream – freakiest thing ever!!!

    • Yes, I have to admit, it was kind of funny the way he made himself so comfortable out there, like it was his own private deck.🐻🤨 Now if he ate those big 6 inch spiders I might not mind having him around. Sigh.
      Yep, I have had bears watch me before, it does give an odd feeling.😳🐻
      Yes, we have those red foxes here too and that scream is amazing!😬🦊 That’s a good way to describe it, “like a woman being murdered”. First time I heard it, it really made me jump. But they have a nice little bark also. They are beautiful animals,🦊 I have had them on my deck too. My cat seems to like them, but she likes dogs, except wolves!🙀😳😂😹

        Ohhh I do not like their scream – it freaks me out especially in a creepy forest lol

        Yes perfect description … also banshee works ✌️

        So yeah freaks me out a little lol – definitely no horror movies would be had with that around lol

        They have creepy forests in Maine?🤔😳 Our forests are just beautiful, wonderful, quiet and relaxing places. A fun place to be.😃🐻🦊🐺
        Nice playful chipmunks and squirrels. Country, the best place to be.😀😺🌞🌲🌳🐿

        At night… it becomes creepy forest 😮

      • It’s fun walking around the forest at night, with the moon shining brightly through the trees,🌙 making all kinds of weird shadows and shapes!😳😬🤪😂😹
        But none of my friends have ever enjoyed such things,🙄 night or day! It’s fun though!😂😹

      • It would be little spooky but only because I worry if man eating animal or snake would kill me lol 😄✌️

        During daylight I wouldn’t mind as long as have some kind of protection. I would come prepared lol

        I love hiking ❤️ just not at night when I can not see well.

        A small stroll near safety maybe? Lol but you have bears that watch you 😮😮

      • The only animals around here to worry about are bears, wolves, coyotes, cougar.😳🙀 Other animals are okay, except maybe skunks, they can be bad too if you happen to scare one of them. It can be very bad!😬🤯🦨
        Daylight is fine, only animals to worry about are bears, wolves, coyotes, cougar and men.😳🙀
        Around here I wouldn’t recommend walking at night,🌙🚶‍♂️ not in forest,🌲😟 not even in town.😬😳
