For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hello everyone and welcome to our new series about wildflowers. This is, of course, wildflowers of our area, however, many may also be found where you live. If not, you get to see some of the beauty of our northern forests and fields. Today’s wildflower is the “Harebell”, but is also known by numerous other names around the world including; bluebell of Scotland, bellflower, heathbells, Lady’s thimbles, and dead men’s bells. That last one is a bit odd. These are very delicate flowers found all over the northern hemisphere. They have very thin stems and leaves, flowers are about an inch (2.5cm) long. They are very hardy and grow in very poor soil conditions often times, they actually seem to prefer it. They can grow in a crack in rock, survive hot dry conditions and bloom all summer. The leaves can be eaten raw in salads and are very nutritious. This is one of my all time favorite wildflowers and I never get tired of taking pictures of them. They are not blooming yet here and usually don’t start until June. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

I did a survey of our wildflowers for the government several years ago, so I got to learn the identity of more than 300 wildflowers of our area. This was a paid position for 3 years. Hard to believe getting paid to enjoy myself.ππΊπ· Thanks so much Sheree! Have a great day!

I don’t know, go with shorts and a T shirt, maybe you’ll start a new trend. Or maybe people will think you’re crazy. Rough day,π¬ back and joint pain was bad today,π³π couldn’t do much walking or anything else. I think this cold weather is getting to me.π€π³π

Sorry to hear that it was a rough day. I think what I’ll miss is the mid day walks in the warm air and sunshine! They issued a frost warning for MN overnight! Mid 20’s!!π²π³π₯Ά

Well, you might still have the sunshine.π Supposed to be 28 here tonight, 26 tomorrow night.π³ But it often gets colder than the forecast temp. Might actually hit 50 tomorrow,π€ΈββοΈ but I doubt it,π they haven’t been right all week.ππΉ

Wish I knew how,π€ I would make a sleeping cat too.π΄πΈ I mean, why don’t they have a sleeping cat?π€ They sleep 16 hours a day, they should have one.πΈ I lay down this afternoon to relax my back and fell asleep right away, didn’t even hear my landlord knocking at the door!π΄π² And I’m still so tired, been that way all week.π³

That is very uncomfortable. I’ve been lucky my hands sting sometimes but the swelling and burning are rare for me. My feet will do that though.

Hey, there’s something you should try when you get back to MN. Start something new, the lukewarm bucket challenge. People pay you $10 to dump a bucket of lukewarm water on your head! Just make sure the bucket is big enough to come off your head easily.π€£π€£π€£

It might take a while to get the message, but hopefully it will work. And during the day I don’t put out much seed at a time, so if Bert comes, he won’t find much to eat. It does mean I have to go out more often to feed the birds, but that’s okay, I would rather do that than feed Bert.
