Steve and Muffin’s Wildflowers #4.

Good morning! Today’s wildflower is the smooth yellow violet. It is a bright, beautiful and cheery flower that for us blooms from early May (normally, except this year) into June. The plant can grow up to a foot (30cm) tall and can get quite bushy at times producing many flowers per plant. They are fairly common throughout much of eastern N. America. They love wetter, low lying areas with good soil and prefer sunny locations. They are easy to grow in a garden and look great in rock gardens or natural wildflower gardens. Bees of all kinds love the nectar from these flowers and some smaller butterflies will also be attracted to them. I have even seen hummingbirds feeding from them. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!
