For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone on this wet Wednesday! It is beautiful outside this morning and even though it was cloudy, it was still nice to sit out there with my coffee and enjoy some time visiting my little friends. However, I wasn’t out very long when the first raindrops began hitting me, now it’s an actual shower. So I sit inside, which is fine, we definitely need some rain, it is so very dry still. We did have rain before, but only about 1/4 inch (6mm), which is barely enough to wet the ground surface. The gulls were here this morning, first Sir George and Lady Pearl, then Sir Henry.
There was quite a bit of singing going on this morning too, but nothing now. The only activity out there right now is the chipmunks. They are still running back and forth collecting their peanuts. They don’t let a little rain stop them. However, it’s getting to be more than a light shower now. And it has gotten very dark. I haven’t heard any thunder yet though, and Muffin is still sleeping, so no storm close by. Oddly there have been no squirrels this morning. Pocket was the first chipmunk, as usual. He put a peanut in each cheek, a single peanut in his mouth, then one more held by his front teeth. Not a bad haul for the little guy.
Now, he usually runs off through a box and down off the deck. He did the same this time. But his mouth was open wider than normal with the extra peanut. “Clunk!” He hit his head trying to go through the handle ‘door’ that he uses. He shook his head, then squeezed through. Then I heard “Clunk!” as he went through the other handle ‘door’. Guess he didn’t learn after the first time. I walked down to the river yesterday, it was so beautiful, just a light breeze now and then.
I saw 5 different types of dragonflies, got a picture of one. Sigh. One of those dragonflies was really cool but he refused to sit down so I could get a picture of him. Sigh. Perhaps next time. I also saw 6 different butterfly species, got a pic of one. I did better with wildflower pics. They don’t fly away. Also had 2 deer ticks, one was just crawling around, the other had dug in already. Deer ticks are not good. They are carriers of Lyme disease. Something has attacked my pansies, so I no longer have any. My poor flowers are having problems this year. Thunder has begun off in the distance. And it’s time for more coffee. I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

The group of them looks nice, They looked like kangaroos at first ππ bad eye sight ππ Be careful with the walking, I heard about Lyme diesease a dangerous one, and don’t worry you can always get a new plant, now is the time ππ try to get indoor plants βΊοΈ safe and it will keep growing π Stay safe, Keep away from the bear, and the different species of dragonfly, are they new? like yet to get discovered? then you must publish it π Whenever I find a new bird, people always say that already exists Last time I find a Male crow and people said it’s Just a crow and they knew it exists already, but then I asked them, did you know whether it is male or female? they said stop joking. They are trying to bury an Einstein from India ππ π

Yes, Lyme disease is dangerous,π¬π³ I’m watching the spot where the one dug in to me. I don’t think he had time to do much.π€ We have so many of those deer ticks around here and about 40 % of them carry Lyme disease according to studies they have done in our area.π€π² They have been trying to find out why there is so much in our area. Bad stuff. No, when I say new, I mean new to me,π all of these are normal dragonflies, but I haven’t seen all of them yet so I get excited when I can see a new one for me.ππ· I know the difference between my crows, which is male and female.π
Kangaroos?? I think Steve is going to faint again, I better go lie down first.πππ€£π€£

ha ha , I have learnt it from you, the bigger ones are male and smaller ones are female I can say which one is a youngster too π been crow watching πππ and I love to watch them , sadly I don’t have much birds here, whenever i see it was just crows ππ€ darn crowsπ. Lyme is dangerous and the numbers are high too π be careful with that. Stay safe… next time when i witness kangaroos I’ll call you π

Good for me, and you, and both of us!ππ Hey, maybe those crows are just black kangaroos in disguise!π€ That’s okay, crows can be fun to watchπ€ and they can get very tame, maybe even sit on your head!π³ Really, they can get very tame.π

Tame? did you said tame? they are the craziest attitude birds I have ever seen, problem is, the more I spend watching them the more they start singing around me with that “kra kra kra” and then they try to sit/hit on my headπ not sure what they trying ππ so I hide and watch π π π hey maybe … they are hidden kangaroos π€ but but but they are… um… .never mind πππ

That’s why you wear a hat. Besides, if you make friends they won’t hurt you. Just have lots of peanuts handy. I had one crow tamed to take peanuts from my hands. The other crows didn’t like him though and chased him away.π¬π¬

that is quite a haul for the chipmunk; glad you got to go to the river, and that there were no close encounters…

Yes, aside from some odd cracking sounds I didn’t see anything. A bear had pushed over a large dead tree, but it was getting fairly rotten. Still, I don’t think Bert could have done it. The bear ripped it apart too getting at ants inside.

I guess bears must really like ants…

For a big animal, they eat small things. Ants and termites are tops on the list.

I know, it’s quite amazing. They also eat berries and leaves in season. And honey, they love honey!
