Steve and Muffin’s Wildflowers #42.
Hello everyone and welcome back to our continuing series on wildflowers! Today’s wildflower is called “Swamp Candle”. It is also known as “Swamp Loosestrife” and “Yellow Loosestrife”. It is one of our native wildflowers that likes sunny or partial shady locations. It can be found in moist thickets, marshes and grassy shores along lakes. The individual flowers are about 3/4 inch (18cm) across. They are very bright which is where they get their name. They can be seen quite a distance away. They are quite common and easy to find around this area. They bloom from June to August and can grow up to 3 feet (90cm) tall. In the west they can be found in BC here in Canada, and it Washington, Oregon and Idaho in the US. Then in Canada they are found from Manitoba to the east coast and in the US from Minnesota to the east coast and down to Georgia and back up at an angle to Minnesota. I had to turn off my spinal cord stimulator last night. This sound funny but it was shocking me while I was trying to get to sleep! One time it zapped my ear!!😲😳

It has been a great day, got some good pics before it got so smokey I couldn’t see anything. There was one huge bumble bee out here today! And a hornet and a half! That thing was huge too, but I couldn’t get close enough to the hornet for a good pic, he kept flying away.🙄📷

Right. I think. I’m sitting here waiting to have supper, now it’s time for bed, but I haven’t eaten yet because I wasn’t hungry. Now it’s too late to eat. But that means I will be hungry at midnight. Sigh. I shouldn’t have forgotten that, but the smoke is so thick I couldn’t see the sun so I didn’t know when to get hungry and eat. Things can be so complicated sometimes.🙄😬

Wasn’t my fault, couldn’t see the sun. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow. I had a bowl of cereal, hey, that’s what I had for breakfast! Time for bed, Muffin woke up, ran and hid under the bed.🙀😬 There’s no thunderstorms out there, no clouds. Right now it’s getting hard to see across the street the smoke is so thick and strong. Coming from a new fire that’s about 8 miles away. They have really been hitting that one hard today. Started by those thunderstorms last night along with many other fires.

Probably would have to head east if the fire cut off the west highway, which it likely would. I would prefer to go to Winnipeg, I have family there. But, you go where you gotta go. Time to pack the suitcase.
