The Investigators, Inc. The Bomb’s Secret. Chapter 7.

Soon the police were driving us back to our hotel. “It’s a good thing you know people in the police department,” said Candace, “that captain was certainly apologizing a lot.” “It does help for sure,” I said, and back to our room we went. I motioned to Candace not to say anything while I plugged in our scrambler device so we could talk. That little device scrambles our voices to make them impossible to understand to anyone who might be listening, no matter what device they might use. Meow!=Little light not come on scrambler! I look. He was right, they did something to that outlet, so I brought out our charger and plugged it in there, then did the same in the bedroom.

Muffin and MC continued to look around for possible hidden cameras or bombs. “These people seem to like using bombs,” I said to Candace, “it’s generally a good way to do the job with no survivors. Helps having our cats along, then can sniff out most anything. But, someone has been able to keep track of us somehow, I don’t understand how they got a bomb in our car.” “Obviously a leak in your organization too Steve,” said Candace, “I didn’t know what was going on so it couldn’t be me.” Meow, meow.=That okay, we not think it you.

Oops, I sorry.

Meow.=Yep, that true, but we need to watch, everyone suspect in case. Candace looks at MC. “Hmm, guess I better be extra careful then,” she said with a smile. Meow.=Oops, I sorry, not mean anything bad. “That’s okay MC, I still love you,” she said and gave him a hug. “Don’t worry Candace, I think you’re safe,” I said, “however, we need to check ourselves and make sure there is no tracking device on us or any of our stuff. You go with Muffin into the bedroom so she can check you and MC can check me out here.” Soon they come back. “We did find a tracking device on me,” said Candace, “or I should say, Muffin found it.”

Meow, meow=Here it is, but it different than others. “Hmm, it’s also a listening device,” I said, “that’s not good, they may have overheard some things I want to keep quiet. But we won’t change any plans right now. Also, your lipstick container had a device in it too.” Meow!=This one bad! I took it and tossed it out the window. It burst into flames with a loud pop. “That wasn’t much of an explosion,” said Candace. “No, kind of strange,” I said, “oh well, it’s finished now, whatever it was for.” I then contacted Baldwin and let him know what happened. He didn’t like the way things were going.

He also said that my house in Canada burned down yesterday. But how? “No one knew about that house,” I said, “except you, Calanthe and Kat. Have you mentioned it to any of your associates lately?” “No,” he said, “I haven’t talked to anyone about that house, (then he paused), except…Martha! She’s been asking a lot of questions about you and your past lately. Can’t believe I didn’t see through that!” “She’s fired, as of right now,” I said, “pay her, put her on a plane back home as soon as possible.” “It’s done Steve,” he said, “I’m so sorry about this mess.” “That’s okay Baldwin,” I said, “it’s easy to make a mistake. But now we have caught it and stopped it, which will make things easier now, I hope.”

“Right,” he said, “now tell Muffin to listen.” Then he hung up. Meow, meow=He say that Mr. Baxter come to visit soon, you talk to him at first opportunity. Why he use big words? Little words better. Candace and I chuckled. “Well, what do you think?”, I asked Candace, “did they move Anthony now?” “Most likely they did,” she said, “but here, look on this map…” Meow, meow!=Wait, camera overhead! “Look at that, so it is,” I said. “That tiny hole is a camera?”, asked Candace. “Sure is,” I said, and I moved a table over and put a piece of tape over the hole, “they can’t see through that tape, even though it looks clear, it’s a special spy tape.”

What? Can’t tell us cats?!

“Cool,” said Candace. The cats went searching and found two more which I also covered. Then it was time for bed. The cats took turns on watch. We had a late, and big, breakfast, then I got a call from Mr. Baxter to visit him in his room on the next floor. “I’m going by myself on this one,” I said, “but you 3 be careful, don’t open this door to anyone except me.” Meow.=Yep, me know, I listen. I went to meet this mysterious Mr. Baxter and we talked for about half an hour. Then I went back to the room. “Well, are you going to tell us who he is?”, asked Candace. “Sorry, I can’t tell anyone, not even the cats,” I said. The cats ears went straight up and they looked at each other. “But now we are on our way to get Anthony,” I said, “be ready for trouble.”

    • Well, I certainly hope it’s me, or I’m going to be very confused! One good thing, the cats can never be replaced. But otherwise who to trust? I’m not sure we can trust Candace yet, but she’s not the prime suspect at this time. But something strange is going on for sure.πŸ˜³πŸ‘±β€β™€οΈπŸ˜ΎπŸ˜ΎπŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

    • Yes, this Mr. Baxter, where did he come from? Why can’t I tell the cats? They do like bombs, they don’t have to be close by when the bomb explodes, and bombs don’t generally leave much behind. But they are a hidden enemy which makes them hard to fight. Something strange is going on, but what is it?
