The Investigators, Inc. Ghost Town Mystery. Chapter 15. Surprises.

“Watch the window while I go outside,” said Mel. Over to the door she went, then quickly outside with her gun out…but no one was there. She ran over to the corner of the house, but still, no one was around. “The face disappeared when you ran out,” said Maggie, “it must have been that ghost that Sam saw.” “Sam saw a ghost?”, asked Mel, “he never mentioned that to me.” “He did not want to talk about it,” said Maggie, “but he changed after talking with that ghost.”

“So that was why he changed,” said Mel, “he was always so nervous suddenly, not like him at all.” “That is the reason,” said Maggie, “and the ghost killed Sam, I am sure of it.” “Ghosts do not exist Maggie,” said Mel shaking her head. “Well, who killed Sam?”, asked Maggie. “I do not know,” she replied, “but it was no ghost. Someone else is here, remember? That is who killed Sam.” “I want to get out of here soon,” said Val, “this is getting too scary for me. Whoever killed Sam could kill us too.”

“Well, I’m keeping my gun close from now on,” she said, “you two should carry a gun too.” “I have never used one,” said Val. “I have Sam’s gun here,” said Maggie, “but it is kind of big for my hands.” “Just use both hands,” said Mel, “point in the right direction and shoot.” “I am leaving these kerosene lamps on all night,” said Maggie. “Good idea,” said Val.

They decided to all sleep in the living room together. Mel was the first one to fall asleep, but soon all of them were sleeping. “Just let the air out of the tires,” said the man, “we want to use this ourselves.” “Right,” said another man. While he was doing that he looked up and saw a glowing person standing next to him. His eyes got big and then he was out as the glowing person kicked him in the head. The other man came back after a while to see what was keeping the other man and saw him lying on the ground.

He took his gun out immediately, but too late, a foot landed in his stomach and another to his head and he fell to the ground. “Check and see why those two have not come back yet,” said a man gruffly, “and keep your eyes open, there is someone else around here.” Two men left to check around the old bus but there was no sign of their 2 friends. “I don’t like this,” said one of them, “let’s go back.” “Right, there is no one here anyway,” said the other man.

“Well, where are they?”, said the man almost growling. “No sign of them anywhere,” said the one. “It is like they just vanished,” said the other, “no tracks or anything.” “That is impossible!”, yelled the old man, “people do not just vanish, and out here they are not going to run away, so someone carried them away.” “If they did, they did not leave any footprints,” said the one man. The old man just grumbled.

Meanwhile…”Well,” said John, “what did you hear?” “Apparently a couple of their friends disappeared into the night,” answered his friend Bill, “could there be someone else out here too?” “This is getting crazy,” said John, “there is already 3 of us here, it is hard to believe there could be a fourth group looking for that treasure.” “Well, I know for a fact now that the other group is Ralf and his friends,” said Bill.

“Ralf?”, asked John in surprise, “he is trouble for sure. Take some men and go get those trees out of the way and use these old saws we got from the store so you won’t make a bunch of noise. And make sure no one sees you. The rest of us will start loading the gold onto the bus.” “That will be a heavy load boss,” said Bill. “Sam rigged that bus to haul a lot of weight,” said John, “so we will be fine.”

Off the men went to cut the trees. “What is keeping those guys?”, asked Jill. “They are taking a long time,” said John, “but we’re done and it is going to be daylight soon, so we have to get going.” Meanwhile… Suddenly a brick came flying through the living room window causing the ladies to wake up screaming. “That is it for me,” said Mel, “it is almost daylight, time to get that chainsaw and go.”

They all came out the door where the bus was parked and spotted John and his crew. A gun fight erupted and Mel jumped in the bus and started to drive down the road, forgetting all about the trees. She came to a noisy stop at the first tree. Ralf and his men were there and took Mel out of the bus and chained her to one of the trees. Then their big truck came along to relieve her of the gold which she did not even know was in the bus. But…

    • I think we just got in the way, Sam was likely hoping we would get rid of the “competition” for him so he could have the treasure to himself. But I think there is still someone else out there too, who was playing ghost during the night? A big treasure can attract a lot of bad guys! I wonder which of them will get to keep it, or will they all end up killing each other? It is indeed mixed up out there.🤔😬🕵️
