Looking At Insects. #6 Robber Fly.

Hi everyone!

Well, here we have a look at our first “Robber Fly” (Laphria Janus). While it looks like some sort of terrible bee, it is a fly and quite harmless to people and animals. They hunt other insects, often larger than themselves. They are strong fliers and have long, strong legs. Most species of robber flies have a beard, like this one, and large bulgy eyes. This one is 3/4 of an inch (18mm) long. This is the first one I have been able to photograph, it is hard to get close to them. Have a great day everyone and God bless!
