For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hi again everyone!
On my walk Wednesday I took a pic of another insect that I was sure was a different species of robber fly, and I was correct. So, here it is, our second “Robber Fly, Laphria Canis”. Apparently there are several different species of the Laphria Canis but they are next to impossible to distinguish in the field like this, they need to be studied close at hand with a magnifying glass to tell them apart. But it is different than the one shown earlier today which was from my walk last week. This one was found along a different part of the path. For me it is quite exciting to find two species of these robber flies. Before this year I probably would have thought they were bees and stayed away from them. This one is likely waiting for some insect to fly past. Have a great weekend everyone and God bless!

Just look at the two pics, the one has golden hairs on top and reddish hairs at its back end. The other fly has really no hairs at all. I didn’t notice until I got real close to it. Flying around they just look like bees. Thanks Dusty!😁📷

Getting close enough to them was the hardest part, especially the second one.

It would be nice to find one or two more, but that will depend how often I walk to the river I guess. Have never seen them around the house here.🤔🪰

Hmm, they’re not green though. But some of them do look quite alien like!

Yes, I’m sure I have seen them other years but thought they were bees so stayed away from them. They are kinda big. I’m a bit braver now so don’t mind checking them out.😁📷

Becareful you don’t irritate a real bee in the process.😬

I thought so. Today I was out sitting among some flowers trying to get pics of bees and wasps. There was a large wasp, about 1 inch long and a bumble bee which both wanted the same flower. That led to a fight and…

Yes indeed, especially in this case sitting on the side of a hill surrounded by bees and wasps. I might have rolled down the side of the hill!😬😬

It sure looks a bit different. You are right about these little insects, they vary with quality and behaviour with small difference which is amazing nature and it’s creativity 🤩 and it is an amazing shot! 😍

I have not actually seen them in our yard though I don’t know why. However, they are more of a country type.😁😻🐝📷
