Coffee On Tuesday. #28

Good morning to all of you on this snowy Tuesday! Well, actually, yesterday and last night were the snowy times, but all that snow made everything white once more. There is snow on the branches of the trees. Snow on the deck, and everywhere else. It is only 4 inches (10cm), but it returned us to what we had before we had those few warmer days when the snow melted a little.

I cleared 2 inches (5cm) of snow off the deck yesterday, then it snowed overnight, so I cleared another 2 inches off the deck this morning. I went out early to get that done before the birds arrived. I also had the feeders out nice and early, so when the birds came everything was ready for them. And it has been busy this morning. Even the grosbeaks were back today, over 30 of them. Along with this new snow, the temperature also fell, so it was, and still is, 15F (-9C).

Plus, it is windy, making it feel like 0F (-18C). Feels a bit more like winter now. But it is going to get colder by the weekend, and colder still next week. But that is just normal. Winter so far has not been so bad really. The birds were hiding their feet a little bit this morning too. That sudden dip in the temperature affects them too. Probably a good thing we got that new snow however.

The cold froze all that melted snow and turned it into ice, which is terribly slippery. Now that ice is buried under 4 inches of snow, which makes it less slippery. Sort of. In most instances anyway. Speaking of slippery. Or perhaps I should say, speaking of bird feeders. Well, perhaps I should say, speaking of the town regulations concerning bird feeders. I think that does it now. Anyway, those regulations state that a bird feeder must be 10 feet off the ground.

That makes it tricky to put food on the bird feeders. I am not ten feet tall. So mine are attached to my deck, but stick out away from the deck by 4 feet, to meet the regulations and stay 10 feet off the ground. But, I still need to stand on something to reach out and put food on the feeder. So I made something that works good, kind of a 2 step idea which gets me high enough to reach that one feeder.

It also helps me reach 2 of my hanging feeders which I bring in at night so the raccoons do not break them. Well, yesterday when I went to bring in the feeders, I stepped backwards down to the next step and…I missed that step. Just caught it on the edge. And down I went. It hurt. A lot. I did not move for a little while. I am still very sore this morning.

And not moving around much. When I do, I move very slowly. Sigh. My idea works well. But there are obvious problems too. Oh well. Things happen sometimes. They happen to me a lot. Sigh. Time for another cup of coffee, would you like another cup also? Well, I hope you have a wonderful day and God bless!
