The Investigators, Inc. The Ringing Resort Case. Chapter 8. Help Coming.

“But, you said they do not have a listening device on them,” said Tamara, still puzzled. “Well, for now you will have to just trust us on this one,” I said, “but they do their own listening and tell us what they hear.” Meow, meow?”=We not going to hurt human Carrie, are we? “Hey now Muffin,” said Sky, “you are not going soft on us now are you? Carrie is the enemy you know.” Meow.=But human Carrie seem nice, not like normal bad guys.

“Carrie is actually a good kid,” said Tamara, “Brandish is getting her hooked on drugs so he can use her in his other business. She is just 17.” Meow, meow.=She tell us of dream she have, some day have own house and family, and cats too. Meow.=Yep, she talk lots about that. “I have changed my mind,” said Sky, “we can help her too, can’t we?” “Well, we can,” I said, “but she will need to want that help, we cannot force it on her.”

“You will not have to force her Steve,” said Tamara, “I have heard her tell me that dream of hers so much I have it memorized. But, I still do not understand, how do you know all of this when the cats are just meowing? You are not just playing with me, are you?” “No, we are not,” I said, “there is a way for them to record a conversation and then give it to us, and yet, without a listening device on them. It is a secret we have though, for just Sky and myself right now.”

“Oh, okay, I was beginning to think there was something wrong with all of you,” she said, “I understand you want to keep things secret, part of being in the investigative business.” “I hope you are not thinking of changing your mind,” I said. “No way, I really do want out of this business,” she said again, “last night I was ready to kill myself, but then I decided to try you and see if you would be willing to help me. The police would not help me and the prison authorities would not help me…”

She paused for a bit with tears running down her cheeks. “I was really at the end,” she continued, “please do not give up on me, not now, please.” “We will not do that,” said Sky, “unless you decide to give up and go back again.” “That I will never do!” she exclaimed, “and I am sure that Carrie will be the same if you give her a chance.” “We will give her a chance,” I said, “but right now we need to prepare for Brandish and his crew.

John, you take care of the manager, Mac, you take the lifeguard.” “Okay,” said John. “With pleasure,” said Mac. Off they went together. “Crystal, Tracy, you go get Carrie and bring her back here,” I said, “we cannot let her wander around and maybe tip off Brandish.” Just then there was a knock at the door. Sky opened the door and Carrie was standing there. “May, uh, may I come in and talk?” she asked. “Certainly,” said Sky.

She seemed a little surprised to see everyone in the room, but mostly seeing Tamara here too. “I came to tell you some news that I hope will help you,” she said. She then told us everything that the cats had already told us, though we did not say that. “Why are you telling us this?” I asked Carrie. “I know you might not believe me, but it is true, all of it,” she said, “I was hoping (she started crying now), I was hoping you might help me get out of this mess I am in.”

“Do you really want out?” I asked her, “or do you just want to try and stay alive in case things do not go well with Brandish?” “No, that is not it at all,” she said, “I, I am hooked on drugs and I want out before things get worse. This is not what I wanted, it is not what Brandish promised me! I just want a normal life. I wish your cats could tell you about it, I have told them about my dreams.” The cats looked up at me, but I shook my head just a bit so they would not get involved.

“We will try to help you,” I said, “as long as you are playing it straight with us, then you have our help.” Sky went and gave her a hug. “Okay everyone, get ready, we have to go now,” I said. Crystal and Aasta put the backpacks on the cats. Then I got a phone call. “Steve, there is a large yacht on the way to the island right now, likely half an hour away,” said the voice, “we are landing at the beach in two minutes. We figured you might need some help.”

“Thanks so much Ralph,” I said, “we can sure use the help, Brandish is coming in that yacht and he will have at least 26 men with him.” “Wow, that is more than we figured,” he replied, “there are 4 of us here.” “Well, that gives us 16, counting the cats,” I said. “Well, make that 17 counting the cats,” he said, “we brought Storm with us too.” Meow, meow!=Yay, Storm here too! Meow!=Yeah, Storm to help! Just then I was hit with another headache which dropped me to my knees, yelling…

    • Yes, trouble does follow us around it seems, can’t even have a simple honeymoon without trouble coming along. Yes, nice that all 3 cats are here now, they will be a big help in this fight, plus Ralph and his 3 friends. That makes things a bit more even for us. Unless these headaches prevent me from going with the others, then someone has to stay with me and that is not good. But we will see what happens. Not much time to change plans now!🤔👩😾😾😾🕵️‍♂️

  3. This is a bad time for you to nowhere and incapacitated with a headache. Everyone is needed in this fight. Carrie and Tamara need someone to watch them and keep them safe from Brandish. He is coming with a large crew but sometimes large is not the best plan. Being mobile and hit and disappear may work.

    • Yep, timing is bad indeed, but all of our team is needed elsewhere, so hopefully Tamara and Carrie can protect themselves and me too. Yes, large is not always better. A smaller and better trained group can have the advantage sometimes. We shall soon see how it will turn out.🤔👩😾😾😾🕵️‍♂️
