For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning on this another very wet morning here at Steve’s Country! Time for some nice hot coffee. It rained and rained. There was lightning and huge booms and cracks of thunder. Poor Muffin. She was not a happy kitty. I am not sure when it started to rain, but it was already raining when I got up at 5am. And it continued until about 8am. My rain gauge says we got about 3/4 inch (18mm) of rain. It is supposed to continue with showers throughout the day.
But tomorrow…there is going to be more showers. With a high of 64F (18C). That is what we would normally have for a night temperature, not a daytime high. I hope this does not mean our summer is over. Actually it is supposed to warm up again on the weekend, so that will be nice. It was a nice warm (sort of), sunny day yesterday with a high of 73F (23C).
And there was not too much wind except for some gusts now and then. So I decide to go for a walk to the river. I get ready and…it is now completely cloudy, no blue sky in sight anywhere. What happened? It was not supposed to be cloudy. Sigh. So I decide not to go walking. Who knows, it might be raining by the time I get to the river. The sun did peek out now and then after that and cleared quite nicely by late afternoon, but too late then for a walk to the river.
Perhaps on Thursday. Or not. This year is much like it was late summer and fall of 2019. At that time I finally decided to walk no matter what, as long as it was not raining. Guess I will have to follow that same thinking this year or I will not get many walks to the river. Oh well. Jasmine continues to come each day for peanuts, though amazingly in the morning she prefers having sunflower seeds.
That is okay however since I am running low on peanuts. So even the chipmunks are getting sunflower seeds along with their peanuts so the peanuts will last longer. Jasper comes now and then too, but he prefers peanuts. Yesterday he showed up and ran off with a peanut along the edge of the deck, just as Skitter the chipmunk came up. Poor Jasper, he jumped more than a foot straight up and Skitter ran in circles not quite sure what had happened.
They both stopped, turned around and looked at each other then continued on their way. Jasper gets along with the chipmunks very well now which is nice. He does not come around much though. I think he must live further away now, or he is just too afraid of Jasmine. She is a tough squirrel, only Copper (formerly Slim, thanks Rossana) will fight with her.
Copper is a good name for Slim, his tail does shine a nice coppery color in the sun. I have tried to get a picture of that without success so far, he does not like to sit still, except when eating and he does not normally sit in the sun when he is eating. Maybe one of these days. Oh my, already time to say good bye for now. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

Not sure how I missed this one, sorry Sheree. Well, it turned out to be somewhat sunny and only light showers a couple of times after our morning storm. You need some of our rain over there. Amazing how much we are getting this summer. We got a whole months worth of rain in just 4 hours the other day. We are more than double our monthly average now.

I’m sorry. I understand. If you have a company, maybe they could help 😇

That would be nice. I even thought one day that maybe I could tie it to my back, but that didn’t work too good, kept slipping down and then I couldn’t see!🙄😮😂😹☔

yep, it is hard to believe, even my tiny little chipmunks are on the same dangerous animal list as bears!😯😮🙄 I sometimes wonder if these people who make the laws have even seen a chipmunk or a squirrel. Sigh. Yep, weird rules is right!😂😂😹😹
