Wednesday Words, With Coffee! #16

Good morning everyone! It is a cool, cloudy and very windy Wednesday here. Why not grab a cup of coffee and visit for a few minutes? The birds are very busy again this morning. The pileated woodpecker came back early this morning too, very nice to see him again. Those 200 or so juncos are still around and at least a couple Fox Sparrows are with them too.

I am sure that numbers will increase at the feeders tomorrow. There is another snowstorm coming our way with a forecast of up to 10 inches (25cm) of snow, perhaps even more. And it will be staying cool for a few days, warming up again by next Tuesday. Winter just does not want to leave us it seems. Oh well. Good weather to stay inside, drink coffee and clean the apartment.

And maybe do some sewing. I am making a cushion for the high back bench in my entryway. Well, something made all the birds disappear suddenly. I think a hawk showed up yesterday, though I never saw it. But the birds act like one is around. The chipmunks are out and about again. At least 5 of them showed up yesterday, chasing each other around the deck, having lots of fun. Well, I was having fun watching them chase each other.

Sometimes it was more of a half hearted chase, kind of slow like. Other times they were really flying around the deck. They never did actually fight though. But they seldom do fight, unlike the red squirrels. Chipmunks are members of the squirrel family, but they are as different as night and day. Pocket and Coffee were on my lap very quickly getting their peanuts.

Skamper came too, but he was a little later getting here. Skitter and Scooter were also here but stayed on the deck. Pocket, Skamper and Coffee were easy to tell apart right from the start. It was a little harder with Skitter and Scooter. I think there may have been another one too, but I am not positive. Jasper was here yesterday too, a couple of times.

Mica tried to come over a couple of times too. He is certainly darker colored than Jasper. Whatever scared the birds did a good job, they have not returned yet. Oops, just as I wrote that the Evening Grosbeaks and Purple Finches starting flying into the trees out back. That is good.

This chipmunk is Pocket, sitting on my leg and getting peanuts from the cup.

I probably need to put more seeds out again. A Downy Woodpecker just arrived too and the juncos are coming out of hiding. Everything is back to normal again.
