For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
A very good morning to everyone on this 12th day of September! I certainly never intended to be away for so long, but things happen sometimes. I sat here beside my living room window watching the day wake up this morning. Things have changed just in the 12 days that I have been living here.
At first there were quite a few birds flying around, gulls, crows, geese, ravens and even blue jays, grackles and chickadees, though just a few of those and not every day. Now there are not many birds around at all. But birds are constantly heading south now.

Stacks of boxes everywhere.
The last couple of days there have been large numbers of Turkey Vultures on their way south. I am including some pics of the area. There are lots of houses out there, but they are hidden by all the trees. This is a very old section of town, mostly residential. There is a small park, of sorts, across the street. It is for sports, like baseball in summer and skating in winter, not for walking around or sitting on benches.

Muffin checking on my unpacking progress.
Unfortunately my pics are either through a dirty window or from the balcony which has safety netting across it, apparently something that is required here. But it does make it hard to get good pics. Sigh. We do have some resident deer in our neighborhood. There are 2 does, 2 fawns and 2 bucks.

Here is one of the bucks reaching up a good 8 feet or more for some tasty red leaves.
I did get pics of the bucks, still trying for the others. I am still unpacking, though nearly done. Since I hurt myself early on I had to unpack rather slowly, otherwise it would be all done by now. I lost a lot in this move too, things were broken. One box in particular that had family heirlooms (dishes) in it.

Here is the other buck, larger in size and less cooperative for pics.
That one everything was smashed into tiny pieces. It must have fallen out of a truck and landed on the street spilling its contents. Then it was scooped up, tossed back into the box and nothing was said. Too bad people are like that. Why not tell me?

Looking south out my window.
Of course I was a bit stupid too. I should have spread out the family items into several boxes, that way there would be less chance of losing it all. Oh well. Things happen. I do like this apartment though. It is certainly different from what I have been used to until this point. More on that another time.
Well, that is all for today, hopefully I will be back to a “regular” schedule now, whatever that will mean I am not quite sure yet. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

I had no idea that you moved, Steve! Considering all the storage boxes, your place looks organized, boxes and all. You have a nice view from the balcony!

Hi Hilary! This move was rather sudden but an apartment opened up (I had my name on the list for one) so I took it. I’m not sure what this will mean for my blog yet, but I may not post as often now.
It is a nice view and I’m glad I moved. Thanks Hilary!ššŗāā

Itās probably a good thing that it became available with short notice. Moving can be stressful but once itās sorted out things will mellow down meāthinks. I donāt think Muffin seems to mind!

Yes, sometimes quick is best and it’s nice to have it over and done. Getting things arranged in its proper place might take a while but it too will get done. Muffin likes looking out the windows, but she is still very nervous about all the noises around here, especially out in the hallway. But she will get used to that too.ššŗ

One day at a time, Tell Muffin that it will be okay. At my old place (it was a condo-style apartment) my cat loved using a leash but then again, my cat is weird. I would let him explore the hallways and great outdoors as long as he was on a leash.

It would be nice if Muffin would be okay with a leash, but no such luck on that one! Probably best anyway, we would likely meet that killer dog two doors down. That lady can barely hold him back. He is quite large too.

Looks good so far. You will find the critters, I’m sure. Or, they will find you, lol.

Thanks Herb! Well, the deer will be around anyway and I will get to see birds now and then too. Not quite as close as I had then before though!ššŗāā

Hey Steve, don’t be so hard on yourself, things happen. Especially during such big moves, and you were all by yourself and Muffin, how can you do everything perfect?
Things are meant to break, and sometimes, that may be for the best. I also did some moving in my college years, it was difficult to find a good place to stay and they changed tenants every year.
That taught me a lot of lessons for which I’m grateful. There’s wisdom in everything, if you look for it. And the new place is great, just wait until you put everything together, you’ll be so proud and feel so much better. Muffin will approve too ššŗ.
Now stay safe and take it easy. Are you feeling better? Did you visit the doctor? š

Yeah, I know, can’t expect everything to work out perfectly at times like this. And I’m just not able to do things like I used to and need to realize that. That part is hard sometimes.
Yep, things break, can’t worry about it that’s for sure. I still probably have too much stuff anyway! I’m getting close to getting everything unpacked, and now starting to get things in their proper place.
Take it easy? That is the hardest part for me! I’m not better exactly, but I am improving. No doctor visit though, I just can’t handle that long wait. However, if this doesn’t improve a little faster I just might have to try the long wait at the ER.šš»

It feels good to have the move done and now it’s just getting things in their proper places so it feels more like home again. Thanks Eugenia, I hope those 2 stay around so I can get more pics of them, and the rest of the deer too.ššŗāāš·š¦š¦
