From The Heights. #26

Good morning everyone on this cool, cloudy and very wet Thursday! Yesterday, in the late afternoon we had our first touch of snow for this fall, or winter, whichever it is. It was snowing quite heavily for several hours, but because we had rain first and the temperature was just above freezing, the snow melted as it hit the ground.

This morning the roofs of houses and cars are covered in white, not frost this time, but snow that actually stayed. But the ground was basically still wet, not snowy. However, that is supposed to change tonight when more snow and colder temps are set to hit us. Not real cold, but below freezing anyway, so the snow will stay. How much we do not know yet, but we will find out.

I actually saw four ring-billed gulls this morning, 3 were chasing one that had some food. Food is getting more scarce for these birds now, but there are always a few that are reluctant to leave, mostly young birds from this year. But the remaining gulls will soon leave and head to Lake Superior for a while. They would stay here if there was enough open water for them. But there never is that much.

We always have open water, but it is not that much, mostly on the river, but some spots on the lake too. Keeps the ducks and eagles happy. I will miss walking to the river this winter. Although, I do have an idea… I get lots of ideas. Some of them actually work. Most do not. But it is still fun coming up with ideas. For example, I need a kitchen table.

I did not have one before because my apartment was just too small. Now I have lots of space and that kitchen needs something in it, plus I need the extra work space when I bake. Counter space is very limited in here, which is rather odd. I could make one, but they kind of frown on using power tools in the building. Too noisy. But really, no noisier than my vacuum cleaner. Oh well.

I could buy a new table, but I do not wish to spend a lot of money on something I will not really use that much. And the “inexpensive” tables are not worth buying. Oh well. I have another idea too. But I will wait on that one for now. Muffin should be waking up from her morning nap soon so I should be off and do some cleaning again. Have a great day everyone and God bless!
