For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
As the lights went out I was calling Matt. ”No alarm, but it is a Code Red,” I told him, “I just do not want to use alarms to let these guys know we are on to them, but get over here now!” Everyone was still awake over there and they were quickly on the road with Clarence driving. He was the fastest, and best, driver of the guys, next to Miles who was still away.
On the way Matt called Aari to let him know we were being attacked and told him to get back fast. They would be too late to help, but could help pick up the pieces afterward. Aari got everyone moving fast and Tracy did the driving. She is like Sky, fast and wild, but she knows how to handle cars and John let them have the fast car he had been using.
Meanwhile, back to us. ”Okay girls,” I said, “follow me to our secret hideaway.” ”I thought there was no way out of here except that one door,” said Aasta. ”True,” I said, “except in emergency situations, like right now.” We went to the back of the room and I told everyone to stand on a certain spot and I pressed a button. We moved into the wall and after we got off it went back to its position, minus the button.
We went down some stairs to another room, then through a door. Once inside I pressed a button and two steel doors came down to cover the other door. I pressed another button and we went underground. ”The five of us can stay here for 40 days without any problem, lots of food, water, and fresh air,” I told them, “and it would take a very large bomb to destroy this place, big enough to destroy the whole house, so we are quite safe.
Sky, Rock, Aari, Matt and Kat know how to contact us in here, and they can also rescue us. Until then, we just sit and wait. Oh, one other thing, our phones do not work in here, but the cats can send messages.” We had Rusty with us, I wanted to leave Muffin with Sky. So I told Rusty to send a message to Muffin and to Tandi so she can alert Mandar.
Upstairs Kat stood at the top of the stairs to the tower room where Sky was sleeping. The reason for her being there was so she could get some sleep as I was keeping her awake with my restless nights of pain lately. Anyway, one of our attackers started up the stairs and Kat began to descend. The attacker spotted her and tried to shoot, without success.
“You cannot kill a ghost,” said Kat, and she began to glow a soft white color. That took the man by surprise so Kat grabbed the banister and kicked the man with both her feet, knocking him down the stairs. He was a big man, but was dead by the time he reached the bottom.
Another man was there and Rock grabbed him from behind, smashing him against the wall 3 times, then he picked him up and slammed him onto the floor, knocking him out. Rock wanted this one alive if possible. There ended up being a lot of shooting, but it was dark so shots mostly missed their targets. Finally two men ran out into the night to a waiting car and they sped away quickly.
Matt and the guys showed up shortly after and tried to follow the attackers, but they were long gone, so they returned again to the house. Rock told Muffin to send a message to Rusty and tell us to stay put at least until morning. ”Good idea,” I said, “so we may as well sleep, no need for guards down here.”
I was having problems with my back again so decided to get up and walk around a bit. But the pain hit so hard that I screamed and fell to the floor. Jennifer and Beryan got me back into bed. ”You are just too stubborn Steve,” said Jennifer, “when will you learn to ask for help?”

Glad you got to the secret hideaway first before the intruders came. Kat did a good work on the stairs. The intruders did not fare very well but some did escape. Steve has to learn to allow others to help him and to take better care of himself.

Yes, unfortunately some did escape which means they will be back again. Kat did her job well and protected Sky. Yes, Steve’s stubbornness needs to be dealt with. I think Steve and Sky will be talking about that soon.🤔👩😾🕵️♂️

Steve doesn’t see how his stubbornness affects other team members. When he sees this, he may make some effort to change. He can’t ask others to change and not do it himself.

So very true and I think the girls have finally gotten through to him this time. It took Jennifer and Aasta to do it. Now for some changes.🤔🕵️♂️
