The Investigators, Inc. The Mystery of Mandar’s Family. Chapter 10. Back From Nowhere.

After receiving the antidote for this ‘nowhere’ drug I immediately fell asleep with Melina and Jennifer on each side of me, to make sure I did not hurt myself. Meanwhile, Sky was talking with Mandar in the library while the girls were getting TJ settled in to her new bedroom that she will be sharing with Cynthia and Aasta for now. It is a big bedroom, so there is lots of room for the 3 girls, and 3 cats.

“I know you are a busy man Mr. M.”, said Sky, “but would it be possible to stay with us for a few days, until we see what will happen with Steve?” “Why of course my dear Sky,” he said smiling, “I had already set aside a couple of weeks to help TJ settle in with you people. But don’t worry, Steve will be fine once that antidote begins to work. I am glad that Steve put Jennifer and Kat in charge until he is back to himself again, a very wise decision.” Sky giggled.

“Well, I hope that Rock isn’t hurt that Kat and Jennifer are in charge and not him,” she said, knowing that I would naturally have chosen Rock. After all, that is what he has been trained to do. “Nonsense,” said Mandar, “I will prove he doesn’t mind.” Just then Rock came into the library carrying a plate of fresh donuts. “Come here, my good man,” said Mandar, “I would like to ask you a question. Oh, look, you brought me some fresh donuts too, how nice of you.”

“Well, I was just…” Rock began to say. “Yes, yes, I know, you were just thinking that I looked hungry,” said Mandar, “and you are right, I am! Now, does it bother you that Steve put Jennifer and Kat in charge while he is in a nowhere state?” “What, of course not,” said Rock, “actually, I’m kind of glad he did, I’m much more comfortable being in second place than in first place anyway.” “You see Sky, nothing to worry about at all,” said Mandar as he began to eat his donuts, “would you mind getting me some coffee to go with these delicious donuts dear Sky?”

“I would be happy to do that,” she said with a big smile. “You should get some donuts for yourself, my good man,” he said to Rock. “I have to wait for the next batch,” he said, “only takes a few minutes.” Off he went to the kitchen to make sure he did get the next batch of donuts. But, alas, several of the girls were already eating them, so he had to wait a bit longer. Carolyn was getting a bit worried now because after 3 hours I was still asleep.

“I was thinking,” said Melissa, “Steve has had that nowhere drug in him for so long, it might take a larger dose for him than it did for Patrick.” “Hmm, that is a possibility,” said Carolyn. She then talked to Sky about it to see if she would give permission to give me another shot of the antidote. Sky took Kat and our three drug experts up to our bedroom to check on me, but there had been no change, I had not even moved a finger.

So, they all talked it over and Sky asked Kat and Jennifer to make the decision, since they were in charge right now. They asked to be alone so they could talk it over, so everyone left, except Melina, Sky said she had to stay in case I woke up. “Well sis,” began Kat, “what now?” “Well, um, I was just thinking that, well, you know,” said Jenny. “Yes, I tend to agree with you,” said Kat, “um, but, what if, uh…” “Personally I think it makes sense to give Steve an added dose of the antidote,” said Melina, “I mean, he has had that nowhere drug in his system so long you said, so it likely would take a larger dose to get rid of it.”

Kat and Jenny looked at Melina, that at each other. Melina kind of smiled weakly. Kat called the others in. “Well, we talked it over and, um,” began Kat. “We decided that it would be, well, you know…” added Jennifer. “So, that makes it unanimous that we should for sure,” said Kat. Sky smiled. “That is just what I was thinking too,” she said excitedly, “so give Steve the added dose.” Melissa did so and everyone left, except for Melina, Kat and Jennifer.

“That certainly went well,” said Jennifer, sighing. “For who?” asked Kat, also sighing. Melina just giggled. “You two are just great,” she said, smiling. “I’m going back downstairs,” said Kat. “Um, I’m kind of hungry,” said Melina, “and I smell fresh donuts.” “Yes, me too,” said Jennifer, “and coffee too.” “Okay, I will send some up to you,” said Kat, and off she went. She just got to the kitchen as Rock was leaving with his big plate of donuts.

“Why Rock, how did you know the girls were hungry?” she asked as she took the plate of donuts from him. Dawn came by right then so Kat asked her to take the donuts up to Jennifer and Melina. Then she asked Amber and Tracy to take coffee up to them as well. I slept the rest of the day and that night, but in the morning I opened my eyes and turned to see Melina on one side of me and Jennifer on the other side. I then began to tickle both of them which woke them up quickly, screaming.

Sky came running in from the extra bedroom to see what was going on. When she saw me awake and tickling the girls, she jumped on the bed, pulled the blanket off me and began to tickle me. There was so much screaming that it was heard downstairs so Kat and Angel came running up quickly. By then we had settled down since we could barely breathe. “Well, it looks like someone is back to normal,” said Kat. “I feel great!” I said, almost shouting.

“That is obvious,” said Sky with a huge smile. Before heading downstairs, Kat and Jennifer talked with me about the “representative” thing, and TJ. “That is fantastic,” I said, “you two are perfect for the job as my representatives. And I just know you will be wonderful mothers for TJ!” I then went downstairs to join everyone. Kat and Jenny sat looking at each other. “That certainly went well,” said Jennifer, sighing. “For who?” asked Kat, also sighing.

Mandar and I talked for quite some time that day. He figured that his late wife’s sister, Danielle, was actually behind the kidnapping. Kendra was her niece and last living relative. Danielle had vowed to destroy all of Mandar’s family after he had killed his wife. Well, actually I believe it was MC that killed her, but Danielle would then blame me which would naturally lead her to blame Mandar since he had hired us that time. Amazing how people will do that.

“Well, it’s nice that you are back again Steve,” said Kat, “now you can take over once again.” She smiled. “Oh no, not a chance!” said Samantha as she came into the library, “He is on recovery for at least another 2 or 3 weeks, maybe longer. No work for him and no cases, even if I have to tie him up and sit on him so he stays home.” “Actually, that is Kat and Jennifer’s job now,” said Sky.

“But if we get a case, then I will have to go with my Wildcats,” said Kat. “Yes, that is true,” I admitted. Dawn just came into the library right then. “Perfect, then Dawn can take your place looking after Steve,” said Sky. Dawn looked around. “Did I miss something?” she asked. Kat, Jennifer and Dawn went out to the pool with some of the other girls for their relaxation period.

“That certainly went well,” said Jennifer, sighing. “For who?” asked Kat, also sighing. “What happened?” asked Dawn, sighing as well. “Don’t try to figure it out,” said Kat, “sometimes things just happen.” “Yep,” said Jennifer.
