Looking At Insects. #23 Butterfly.

Hello once again everyone! I hope your day is going well.

Today we have another butterfly to share in our series, this one is the “Checkered White”. It is the first time I have seen this species of butterfly, in late August. I have seen other butterflies in the “Whites” family, but this one is a first. That made it even more enjoyable to photograph, though it did not want to cooperate and I could not get a picture with her wings spread open completely.

This is the female, males have no pattern on the hindwings and less pattern on the forewings than the female. This butterflies have a long season, from late June to early October. They overwinter as a chrysalis, and have 2 broods per summer. The wingspan is about 2 inches (5cm). Have a great day everyone and God bless!

Coffee For Thursday. #17

Good morning on this very rainy Thursday! It rained off and on during the night, we even had at least 2 thunderstorms. I got up during the night and wondered why Muffin was so scared. I thought perhaps the bear had been here, but then a large boom! Thunderstorm, that is why she is so scared. It was so cold I never thought there would be thunderstorms. Oh well.

We did not get a lot of rain though, but it is certainly wet out there. Only GPS, one of my chipmunks, showed up yesterday, and he only came twice. The blue jays were around most of the day. The chickadees and nuthatches showed up a few times but did not stay long each time. There were even 3 grackles that showed up for a short time.

One of the last hollyhock flowers.

Most of the time it is quiet out there, no action with the birds at all. Hopefully that will change, this is the time of year that birds choose their winter feeding places and I want to be on the list. I still need to make some changes to my feeders this fall, but there is still time for that. The next sunny day I will get that part done. It is now mid month and the changes since the beginning of the month are amazing.

The days are noticeably shorter now, and cooler, even with the sun shining. There were still a lot of birds around 2 weeks ago, not much now. The chipmunks were busy, now they have all gone to bed for the winter. There were a lot of insects around of many different kinds, now there is basically nothing out there.

And another one.

Just put some peanuts out for the blue jays, I found some extra peanuts that I had put in a jar and forgot about, so that is helping. Plus I have a smaller jar of peanuts that I use for Scramble when I go for a walk, so I will start to use those next. I need to keep feeding those blue jays or they will go somewhere else and I do not want that to happen.

Well, it is going to be a rainy day so perhaps it will be a good day to bake some coffee flavored cupcakes. They are so good! A perfect rainy day treat. Plus I will continue with my fall cleaning. I will admit that lately I have not been doing much in that regard, but I need to get back at it. I am amazed at how much dust there is under the furniture. Terrible to admit that.

And one more.

I guess cleaning under there needs to happen more than twice a year. Perhaps 4 times a year would be better. Here is something, have you been having trouble leaving a comment on my blog? Some people have said they cannot leave a comment lately. I have had the same problem trying to comment on other blogs.

It just comes up saying “Nonce comment failed”. It does not happen to everyone though so trying to get WP to believe there is a problem can be frustrating. If you do have this problem, please tell WP so they understand that the problem exists. Sigh. So if you see me “liking” but not commenting, that is the reason. Well, guess it is baking time, so nice of you to drop in today for a visit, have a great day and God bless!
