Monday’s Musings. #29

Good morning everyone! It’s actually still dark as I write this morning. It’s winter. Even with the time change it still doesn’t get daylight very early anymore. Such a difference from summer. I enjoy waking up to the sound of birds singing cheerfully and the early morning sun shining into my bedroom. Now it’s dark. The birds still sing cheerfully, but it’s later now. It is nice, however, to hear the birds chirping noisily out on the feeders and from the trees after daylight finally breaks through that darkness. Speaking of birds…

Theodore hasn’t been around since the snowstorm, haven’t even heard her gobbling anywhere out there. But then I’m not exactly standing around outside for any length of time these days. Right now, and for the next few months, I really prefer to stay indoors that time of morning and enjoy my nice hot coffee. I have a new little friend. I named him Chester, like one of my chipmunks, for now anyway. I needed a name that started with CH. It’s a chickadee, which is why the CH. He is the last chickadee out here each evening. When I go out to bring the feeders in for the night, he is there, still eating.

This white-breasted nuthatch is yawning, not as clear as I would like, but it’s not easy catching a bird yawning.

So I stand there and talk to him until he’s finished eating. Perhaps he’s not getting enough to eat during the day so he needs to stay later than the others. Yesterday it was almost dark when I went out to bring the feeders in. I had turned on the deck light so I could see better. I didn’t really expect to see Chester, but there he was, pecking at a seed. And he ate several more before he finally flew off into the darkness. He shouldn’t have to worry too much about predators anyway. Except maybe an owl. And we do have owls around here. But they are big owls which are usually more interested in other things, not little birds. Usually.

Hopefully I can get him/her to land on my hand so I can tell if it’s a male or female. That way I can give it the right name. My white-breasted nuthatches are back again, I’m happy about that. And the red-breasted nuthatches too. The female hairy woodpecker has been enjoying the suet I put out. I haven’t seen the male on there yet, but he doesn’t come around as frequently as the female. That will change as the weather gets colder. Seems we might get some snow this week, though it isn’t supposed to be much. We’ll see. No winter photos today, there will be a lot coming in the future, so I’ll stay with snow free photos for a while yet. Have a wonderful Monday everyone and God bless!

Steve And Muffin’s Monday Smiles. #13

Hi everyone on this cool Monday morning! Are you ready for some laughs? Giggles perhaps? Maybe a smile? Well, we hope you get at least one from today’s selection, so let’s get smiling…

A heavy snowstorm closed the schools in one town.

When the children returned to school a few days later, one grade school teacher asked her students whether they had used the time away from school constructively.

“I sure did, teacher,” one little girl replied. “I prayed for more snow.”

A boy asks his father to explain the differences among irritation, aggravation, and frustration. Dad takes out his cell phone and dials a number at random.

When the phone is answered he asks, “Can I speak to Roger, please?”

“No! There’s no one called Roger here.”

The person hangs up.

“That’s irritation,” says the dad.

He picks up the phone again, dials the same number and asks for Roger a second time. “No, there’s no one here called Roger. Go away. Don’t call again.”

“That’s aggravation,” says Dad.

“Then what’s frustration?” asks his son.

The father picks up his phone and dials a third time: “Hello, this is Roger. Have I received any phone calls?”

Why must I prove I am me when I call to pay my bill? Do strangers call to pay my bills? If so, why don’t you let them?

I had a job offer from a large company and they offered to fly me out to the interview on business class.

During the return flight we were given gourmet brownies and cookies. Not hungry, I decided to save them for later, so I placed them in an airsickness courtesy bag.

After the plane landed, I got up to leave and a flight attendant approached me if I wanted her to dispose of the bag.

I said, “No thanks, I’m saving it for my kids.”

That’s it for today everyone, we hope you have a marvelous Monday and God bless!
