Hello everyone and welcome back to our continuing series on wildflowers! Today’s wildflower is called “Swamp Candle”. It is also known as “Swamp Loosestrife” and “Yellow Loosestrife”. It is one of our native wildflowers that likes sunny or partial shady locations. It can be found in moist thickets, marshes and grassy shores along lakes. The individual flowers are about 3/4 inch (18cm) across. They are very bright which is where they get their name. They can be seen quite a distance away. They are quite common and easy to find around this area. They bloom from June to August and can grow up to 3 feet (90cm) tall. In the west they can be found in BC here in Canada, and it Washington, Oregon and Idaho in the US. Then in Canada they are found from Manitoba to the east coast and in the US from Minnesota to the east coast and down to Georgia and back up at an angle to Minnesota.
