Coffee At Steve’s Country #66.

Good morning everyone! The coffee is hot so just help yourself to a cup and relax for a few minutes. It’s another beautiful start to the day, we are really getting spoiled with this early look at spring weather. But it sure is nice so I won’t complain about it. And today we have a strong south wind to really help melt that snow a little faster. I’m a little earlier today so that means I’m a bit earlier than the birds even though it is daylight already. But they don’t have to get at the food quite so quickly now with the warmer weather, they can take their time, perhaps sleep in a bit, or whatever else they do before coming here for their breakfast.

Jasper was here again yesterday afternoon and talked for a bit.

I spent time just sitting on the deck yesterday afternoon enjoying the warm sunshine. And it does get quite a bit warmer on my deck than elsewhere. The wall of the house really radiates the heat and with no wind it can be several degrees warmer on my deck than the actual temperature. This weather could start waking up some of our sleeping critters. Yesterday morning I could very strongly smell the skunk, so they are now awake again. I’m sure the raccoons won’t be far behind, which will mean I will have to start bringing the bird feeders in at night again too. I should probably start doing it before they show up and break something.

Major also came yesterday afternoon and nearly came right up to me.

They have broken more than enough of my hanging bird feeders the last 5 years. If they wouldn’t break the feeders I wouldn’t mind having them around. Muffin was scared of them at first, but not anymore. When she fought that one through the window and he fell over backwards onto the deck, it gave her renewed courage. I wonder what she really thinks of them? Perhaps thinking they are long haired cats? She wouldn’t actually want to meet up with one though, those critters can fight when they need to. Usually they prefer to just leave. To be honest, I’m surprised they haven’t been around yet. Then, of course, there’s the guy with the black fur coat. But we won’t talk about him right now. I hope you all have a nice sunny Sunday and God bless!

Coffee At Steve’s Country #65. Fun And Spring?

Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday as well! Coffee is ready, just help yourself and relax with Muffin and I for a few minutes. It’s a beautiful sunny spring morning, with a temp of 23F (-5C). However, it isn’t quite spring yet, this weather is giving us a taste of spring to come, but colder weather is returning next week and is supposed to hang around for another couple weeks after it arrives. Actually, it’s supposed to be up and down temps until at least mid April. However, the forecaster said they really were not sure how things were going to work out for our spring.

A geranium on my deck last summer.

That was after spending 10 minutes telling us the spring forecast. He could have saved 10 minutes by just saying that one sentence at the beginning. But I guess people wouldn’t have liked that too much. But at least he was being honest. Trying to forecast spring up here in the north is not an easy thing to do sometimes. There doesn’t seem to be any particular pattern. Except that for the last 20 years it has been getting colder and later. The birds are sure busy this morning, though none showed up very early. Jasper and Sylvie were here too, but have now gone again. They didn’t run quite so much through the trees this morning, but that might come later. Poor Jasper. But he has to stay in shape. Although if he gets too tired out, he won’t be able to chase the chipmunks. I’m sure they won’t mind however. I wonder when the chipmunks will start to show up? It’s warm enough for them now, but hopefully they won’t come out just yet. They would just have to go back into hiding if it gets colder again.

Beautiful flowers from one of our parks last summer.

I’m almost expecting Coffee to show up though, he got a late start gathering food, so he might run out sooner than the others. I will have to keep watching for him. Look at that, some starlings have shown up this morning. Not a very popular bird with most people, just listed by people as another “blackbird”, but they are quite fun and comical to watch. And if you get to see them up close and in the sun, they are amazingly colorful birds. I’m back. I tried for a picture, but they flew as soon as I opened the door, happens every time. I still don’t have a picture of one. Maybe this year. I need to be outside when they show up, then I will have a chance. The challenge continues. Sometimes the most common birds can be the most difficult. Or maybe it’s just me. Oh well, one day. Always an extra challenge, which is nice. Have a wonderful day and God bless!
