For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Well, here we are at the prison, the electricity of off everywhere here and it is totally dark. And when I say it is dark, I mean, it is dark. Completely. Like, not being able to see anything except for stars overhead. And even those will be gone once we head inside. Right now we are waiting for an explosion which marks the guys part in beginning their pretend jail break. Some prisoners from Mauricio’s gang just might get free tonight too, which is fine.
Mauricio will likely need all the help he can get when Ramon attacks his gang later. The minutes keep ticking by. Why don’t we hear anything? Our timing should have been perfect. We don’t even hear the helicopters yet. I’m starting to sweat now. Those minutes are ticking by quickly. Where are they? I look at my watch. It must not be working.
I point to Dawn’s watch and she shows me. I guess my minutes are only seconds, 28 seconds to be precise. I’m too nervous I guess. I want this to be over and us on our way, with everyone safe. But is that reality? Suddenly there is a large explosion heard on the other side of the prison and the blast creates a gaping hole in the wall. That’s our cue and Sky opens the electric locking mechanism on the main doors. In we go and we don’t get far before we encounter the first group of guards not far ahead of us.
They pointed their flashlights at us, but Sky and Angel showed us something else they can do. They produced a bright glowing light aimed at the guards, much brighter than their flashlights and temporarily blinding the guards. They screamed and my girls jumped into action, fighting the guards and very quickly subduing them. We then kept running down the hall, having no trouble finding our way through that maze of hallways. We had the cats to follow! Including one big lion!
And on the tails of each cat was a blue light, not very bright and it only faced us. We tested these lights and they are perfect for such an operation. They are impossible to see ahead of the cats, only from behind. And we went over things with those cats numerous times so that they new exactly which way to go and which hallway to follow. Plus, they did so quickly! There were several locked doors that Sky needed to open for us, but she had no trouble doing that.
Then we came to one door, and Sky was about to open it, but Pacca called out, “NO!” It was louder than we were supposed to talk, but still not much above a whisper. However, she did have a good reason. Apparently there was a warning sign saying that the door was surrounded with explosives which would explode if the door was opened during an emergency time, such as this one. Now what?
Sky told everyone to move well back while she unlocked the door, but I said no. This door was mine. It led to the solitary confinement wing of the prison and Sky was needed more in there than I was. Sky did not like that idea, but I reminded her that I was Leader 1. “Stubborn male ghost!” she whispered loudly, then she went back to the others. “That’s telling him,” whispered Misty.
I got the door unlocked, but, it was followed by a powerful explosion! Everyone knows where we are now. I was thrown 10 feet backward by the blast and lay motionless on the floor. Kristina, who came back with Sky after Sky took Kat back home to try and help Mandi, said she would stay with me while the others continued to look for Visty. Sky told Dawn to stay as well, then they could watch both directions easily. Our search group split into two groups for better protection and off they went down the next hall.
As the first group walked past some cells, one of them opened and 5 guards came out and began to shoot. But then our second group shot at the guards. Our team is using silencers, but the guards are not, so when they began shooting it alerted other guards to our position. That meant they had to go past Kristina, Dawn and I, which could be a problem. More guards soon came running past our position and kept right on going, not seeing us.
“Good work Kristina,” whispered Dawn. “I didn’t do anything,” she whispered back. They both looked down at me. “Well, no one else was doing anything,” I whispered. “Are you okay?” asked Dawn. “Just a bit dizzy,” I whispered. “He’s okay,” they whispered together. I wonder what they meant by that? Anyway, I told Kristina to catch up with the others and I would stay here with Jennifer.
“Okay,” she whispered and she stood up to go. But she just stood there, then looked down at me, then got back down on her knees beside me. “Who am I?” she asked. “Kristina,” I said, frowning a bit. “Who is that?” she asked again, pointing to Dawn. “Jennifer,” I said, frowning a bit more, like I wasn’t sure what was going on. “Steve, I’m Dawn,” she whispered to me. “This is no time for games,” I said, “Kristina, get going please, Jennifer and I can look after ourselves.”
Dawn nodded to Kristina, so she left to find the others. It didn’t take long and she found two wounded girls, Sapphire and Monika, but they told her to keep going, so she did. It wasn’t long and she found three more, Abigail and Rochelle, with Cindy, one of our nurses, looking after them. Abigail and Rochelle were wounded worse than the first two. Kristina decided to stay with this group to help Cindy. Up ahead Sky and Angel were peeking into each cell, looking for Visty.
Finally they found a cell with a woman in it, but it wasn’t Visty. The next cell also had a woman in it, then an empty cell, then they found Visty in the next one. Sky decided they would take all three women out with them, so that is what they did. Arriving back with Cindy and her group, they found that Kristina and Cindy had put together two of our portable stretchers from the medical backpack that Cindy had, and four other girls carried them.
Then Kristina communicated with Sky what I had said about Dawn. “Seriously?” she asked. Kristina nodded affirmative. They soon arrived with the first two wounded girls. Kristina carried one and Angel carried the other. Misty was helping Visty who had been drugged and beaten. As we walked along one hallway, I suddenly stopped and told everyone I sensed trouble just ahead. We all stopped and Sky went ahead with Angel.
There was a lot of shooting from cells on either side of the girls. However, all that happened was the guards shot each other. Angel picked up Sapphire again and we continued our journey. It seemed like such a long time but in reality it was only minutes. But just as we arrived at the main door leading outside, another group of guards arrived behind us and began shooting.
I turned and tossed a large lightning ball at them, killing all 5 guards. But, 3 more of our girls were shot and wounded. Fortunately we were at the doors and opened them. Sherry and the other girls that stayed with the vehicles, came over to help right away. We didn’t have much time and soon we were driving quickly down the road and away from the prison! “Okay Fluffy,” said Sherry, “shortest way to the airport please!” “Me Fluffy, we get there quick as cat!”

After the man named Major and his 5 companions had listened to the recording that Sky and Angel gave him, they didn’t want to let the girls go. Instead, they wanted to keep them around for a while to have some “fun”. Sky and Angel didn’t like their idea of fun, however, so they got up to leave. Two men stood in front of the door, smiling, while the other 3 grabbed the girls and tried to kiss them. Major just sat there, smiling, expecting to have some great fun.
But, Angel picked up one of the men with just one of her hands and threw him against a wall. Sky touched another man on his chest, he screamed and flew backward against another wall, then slid to the floor, dead. Angel then kicked another man a couple of times, picked him up and tossed him at Major, hitting him rather hard. Sky finished off the remaining two men and the girls left, returning to the hotel. I had returned with Dawn and Alizea by the time Sky and Angel got back to the hotel.
On our attack of John Meyer, we had suffered only 3 wounded. There was one of our girls and two from Mandar’s teams, a man and a woman. All three were minor wounds, but they would have to stay in the clinic a couple of days anyway. By the time we returned, Cristy had discovered what time, and on what flight, Ramon would be returning, but it would not be for another 2 days. Therefore it is necessary for us to get Visty out of prison before he gets back.
He will likely put more security around her after he returns, or he will just have her killed, one or the other. I doubt that Major would kill her without permission from Ramon, but he might call Ramon to tell him what is going on and that would be bad for us. So, that means tonight is the big night. I let Alizea do the planning, aided by Tracy, who knows the solitary confinement area, and Jazzy who also seems to know a lot about this prison.
However, I didn’t want to pry and ask why she knew so much about the prison. After all, she is helping us even though she doesn’t need to help. I figure if she wants to say something, then she will, in her own time. Sky took Kat back home earlier while we were still away, hoping that she might be able to help Mandi. Poor Erika had been crying so much she could no longer talk, and Jennifer was almost at that point.
I wanted to stay behind to help them both, but they said no, that I needed to be here for Misty and Cristy instead. I just sighed. Some changes need to be made to the Investigators after this case or I’m going to collapse. Jazzy could see it too and she told me that after this is done, she would like to return home with us and have a little talk with me.
I told her I would welcome that, but we never said anything to anyone else. We all needed some rest before the rescue tonight, so we were in bed by 5pm. Dawn whispered to me, asking if we could have a short bubble time. Being in one of our bubbles means that no one else can hear us, not even other ghosts, with a couple of exceptions. So, I put us in a bubble and she told me that she could tell I was having trouble right now.
“You have too much weight on you,” she said, “and we never get a break. And vacations are impossible, but important. We can, however, say no to any cases for a specific time and vacation at home since we have everything we need that is available at any other vacation destination, except a restaurant and I have already talked to Sienna about making our own restaurant, rather than just a huge kitchen to eat in.”
She said she had other ideas too, but she would save them for another time. Midnight came much too quickly, but we needed to get going. We had to be in place before our helicopters arrived. They would be part of the diversion and would pretend to rescue Mauricio’s men from the men’s portion of the prison.
While that was going on, the rest of us would enter the women’s prison and look for Visty in the solitary section, and hope that she was still there. The Black Wolves would be in charge of the fake prison break. We would use two helicopters, concealed from sight by one of Kat’s latest inventions, until the last minute when they would suddenly be attacking the prison.
Most of the guards on the men’s side work for Ramon, which is why his men always seem to escape, while other gang members never do, or are shot while they try to escape. The women’s side is run by a woman that everyone calls “mother” and most of the guards on her side are men, or rough and tough women like herself. Plus, the worst of the women prisoners are allowed to treat the other women prisoners in horrible ways.
In other words, we don’t need to be too careful about not hurting the guards while rescuing Visty. If anyone gets in our way, we will get them out of our way. It’s a very simple strategy. However, they will likely be doing the same thing, so we need to be careful. Timing is key tonight. Once the prison break attempt begins, we break in our section, and hopefully come out again.
We have done this before, although it is much more dangerous this time, there is no outside help for us, we are totally on our own. Sky, Angel and myself have moved into position, invisibly, so that we can open the locked gates for our vehicles and get inside the prison, without being detected. We will cut the electricity, including the emergency generators, then unlock the doors and in we go!
Our vehicles were down the road a bit and around a curve, so they could not be seen from the prison. Carine and Kitty are with the Black Wolves and Angel has just returned from disconnecting the emergency generators. Now Carine gives us the early warning and I open the road gates while Sky cuts off the electricity to the prison, and everything goes completely dark…
