Coffee At Steve’s Country #4.

Good morning on this marvelous, mild Monday! The coffee is ready, nice and hot, just grab a cup and relax with us again this morning! It was so nice going out to feed the birds this morning. The temp is a mild 30F (-1C), a bit windy and heavy clouds. It was completely dark still when I went out there with some sunflower seeds. They had forecast a bit of snow for us which we didn’t get, except for a light dusting. However, we did get the freezing rain that was also part of the forecast. So there is a nice layer of ice covering everything. The leftover seeds on the feeder were also covered with ice, too thick for the birds to get at them. Oh well.

This is the baby of the group, named Furzy.

I put a new layer of seeds on top and filled the small bird feeder as well. Very heavy clouds today so it was slow getting light and even now it’s still quite dull out there, definitely not as light as it should be by now. Jasper had a hard day yesterday, fighting off the other squirrel twice. But the second time it seemed to be a tie with both sitting in trees not too far apart chattering to each other. That’s not good. That other squirrel is too determined to take this territory from Jasper and he’s gaining each time. I sure hope that Jasper can hold on, I would really hate to lose him. Mama (the white-tailed deer), and a couple friends, came by to visit yesterday. So I thought I would share pics of them with you today.

And this is Mama.

Yesterday Betty and Baxter were sitting on a branch and Baxter moved over until the 2 were sitting right next to each other. What a nice pic, I thought to myself, so I went to get my camera, which was still in it’s case. I get it out, slip on my boots, fortunately it’s mild enough I don’t need a jacket for a quick pic or two. I go outside and…they’re gone. Not a blue jay in sight. Sigh. Missed such a cute picture. They were actually touching each other. Oh well. Perhaps another time. Note to self, take camera out of case first thing in the morning so it will save time. Really, seconds count when talking about a great pic, or no pic. I’m a slow learner it seems. (😾Yep, very slow). Hey, where did you come from? (😸Mommy). Very funny. (😹Me think so). Sigh. Well, we hope you all have a wonderful Monday and God bless!

Cold Winter Walk, A Poem.

Cold Winter Walk

The sun is shining through the pines,

And before me, there, making lines.

Shadows long, stretch across the snow,

As in the forest, deep I go.

So soft the snow, I walk along,

The air is cold, chilling and strong.

I stop, listen, quiet does reign,

Then off I go, walking again.

It’s hard to breathe, with air so cold,

Yet walking slow is best, I’m told.

Little birds, as they chirp so free,

Are in the trees, all around me.

Then I stop, for there, without fear,

Looking at me, beautiful deer.

There’s so much joy, I look and smile,

So cold this walk, yet so worthwhile.
