For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hello everyone on this very beautiful Friday! And welcome back to another coffee time! Of course everyone is welcome to come and join us for a nice cup of coffee, tea, pink lemonade, or iced tea. We have a nice little park to meet at again today which is right on the shore of Rabbit Lake. It’s the opposite end of the lake from the park we were at earlier this summer. We did come here last year in the fall but it looks so different now in the summer. There are plenty of benches to sit on plus lots of grass if you like to sit on the grass instead. There is also plenty of shade and sunny areas for whichever you like best.

There is no beach at this little park but we do get plenty of wonderful scenery to enjoy. I see Sheree has brought lots of goodies for us to eat today and I brought along some blueberry cupcakes made with freshly picked wild blueberries. The berries are starting to get ripe now but it will be a while yet before it’s really good picking. There is a nice gazebo here for us to use as well and you can look out over the lake beautifully from there. Hi Ribana, so nice that you can join us today, and there is Rossana as well and Chrissy, thank you for coming out today! Hi Tiffany, nice to see you. Hi Buddy, Jim, Dusty and Simon, so nice to see all of you. Hi Jeanne and Correne! Did Teddy come along with you today?

Hi Eugenia, so glad you could come today. I see Muffin is here looking to see if you brought Callie with you. Thanks for coming out Nina and Mr. Cat. Now Muffin is having her own little coffee time with her friends. Plus I see they are all making the rounds and getting to know everyone. There isn’t a lot of flowers here, there is quite a bit of sumac however, plus a couple other flowers that I’m not familiar with. I see there is some yellow avens over here, a nice bright wildflower. And there is some nice “northern bush-honeysuckles” over here as well. Aww, too bad, that robin over there flew off before I had a chance to get a picture.

There’s a song sparrow in the sumac by the lake singing so beautifully. Anyone ready for more coffee? Just help yourself to the delicious baking that Sheree brought today. I see my blueberry cupcakes are gone already, but I didn’t have many available today, there’s just not enough blueberries that are ripe yet. This is actually a nice little park to just relax for an afternoon and enjoy the surroundings. I see Muffin is having a hard time, she wants to visit with everyone, but especially with her cat friends today. I see they are having a lot of fun playing fuzz ball over under the trees!

And it’s nice to see that there are absolutely no bugs here today, that’s a real plus for an enjoyable afternoon with friends. Plus the sky is staying a brilliant blue, there is just a light breeze and it is pleasantly warm today, perfect for spending some time outdoors. Speaking of time, I guess it is time to say good bye once more, until next week when we will visit…some place around here, not quite sure where just yet, so it will be a surprise for us. Until then, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and God bless!

Good morning and Happy Friday to everyone! It is simply a beautiful summer morning, the sun is shining, it is calm, it is fantastic sitting on the deck with my coffee and listening….It is so quiet now, not many birds singing anymore. The wren is singing a little. There is a solitary vireo singing steadily since before I was out of bed. A robin was singing early this morning and a white-throated sparrow is singing. But most have stopped now except for a short song now and then. Most have their young out and flying around. I mentioned the chipping sparrows before, now the song sparrows have brought their young around. The phoebes have their young out too, but they just won’t come out in the open so I can get a picture. The goldfinches are out here eating this morning, they haven’t been coming so early for a long time.
Skamper was here first again, but Pocket wasn’t far behind and Coffee came in third. I haven’t seen Skitter and Skatter yet. Runner came by early too, that was bad for the chipmunks. Runner fell off the deck once while chasing Skamper. Both Pocket and Skamper just jump off the deck when being chased now, it’s the quickest way down and the quickest way to lose Runner. All of the gulls showed up at the same time this morning, that made things a bit interesting for feeding them, but they seemed to work it out okay. Except poor Sir Henry was last on the list so he didn’t get much. So I brought out some more for him. The hermit thrush is singing right now, just sounds so beautiful. It’s always kind of sad when they stop singing, it means that summer is nearly done for another year.
Well, today we have our final two vetches to show you. At the top is the milk vetch, probably the least common variety around here. But go just a half hour east of here and it is the most common variety. All of the vetches are part of the pea family.

Then in the pic above is the crown vetch, probably the most showy of the vetch family around here. This one is also not very common around here but still found more often than the milk vetch. I hope you all enjoy your Friday and God bless!
