Thursday’s Thoughts #1…Little Things.

Hi everyone and welcome to something sort of new!  Instead of our Darting Dragonflies, I have replaced it with Thursday’s Thoughts which will include several different things.  It will include dragonflies at times, butterflies, mushrooms, insects in general, plus other thoughts about things.  Basically just a series where I talk about, whatever comes to mind that Thursday.  With pictures of course to go along with what I’m talking about.  It is a sunny, but cool day today, with a strong north wind.  I would like to go for a walk to the river, but I think I will wait another day and maybe it won’t be so windy.  It is hard to hear back in the pines with such a strong wind, and I like to hear what is going on around me.  Especially since there are hungry bears around this time of year.  Generally bears will run when people come along, they don’t want a fight anymore than we do.  But it’s those sudden unexpected encounters that can be troublesome.  And a noisy wind can make it hard for them to hear as well.IMG_3668

Anyway, here I am and spring has arrived even though on some days, like this one, it doesn’t really feel like it.  But, there are signs of spring showing up everywhere.  New growth in the landlord’s flower gardens.  The grass is turning greener all the time, as in the pic above.IMG_4126

And there are new tiny leaves showing up on small shrubs and even on some larger shrubs now.  Some of those new leaves are sort of a reddish color or reddish green, like on the small shrub above.  But they are popping out now which is so nice to see, a true sign of spring and an exciting time as it shows that summer is not far away now.IMG_4129

And the wildflowers are beginning to grow again as well and likely won’t be long before some of them are once again blooming, such as these “pale corydalis” in the pic above.  And these “tansy” plants that have also begun to grow in the pic below, even though they don’t start to bloom until mid to late summer.IMG_4131

Spring.  Little things.  A most beautiful time of the year.  It brings with it new growth, and new hope that things do get better.  We just need to be patient and wait a little.  I hope you have enjoyed this little rambling of mine today.  Each week will be a little different so please come and check it out.  I also hope that you all have a wonderful day, stay safe and God bless!

Daily Pics #128.

Good morning everyone!  Wow, hard to believe another day is here already.  Sometimes the days just seem to disappear so fast.  Yesterday was one of those days.  I did get a lot accomplished though, but not everything on my list.  I think I should stop sleeping so much, no more of these 7 hour nights, I need more time to get things done.  Speaking of walking yesterday.  It was a nice sunny day, but rather cool with a fairly strong north wind.  But I decided to go for my walk down to the river anyway.  It was cold down there sitting in the shade, so I didn’t stay very long.  And with the wind singing through the pines, or is it the pines singing in the wind?

Anyway, it made it hard to hear, which is not something I like when wandering alone along that path.  I was about half way to the river when I heard a loud crack and something heavy run off through the trees.  That was a bit unnerving to say the least.  Then a little farther on I stop.  In the middle of the path is fresh bear poop.  That confirmed my suspicions on the noise I just heard.  Now, a normal person would have turned around and gone back home at that point.  I’m not normal, so I kept going to the river, where I didn’t stay long anyway because it was too cold, so I decided to head back home.  Didn’t see or hear anything amiss on the way back, which was nice.  But I was certainly looking around a lot.  Now I’m going to be nervous for a while walking along that path.  Sigh.

And now for today’s spring pics I would like to share with you…

In the pic above is a male and female mallard duck down at the river.  I sometimes wonder if it’s Mike and Maggie that come around my bird feeder.IMG_4075

And when I get back home, I am greeted by a nice happy robin sitting in one of the trees, not far from my deck.

And there are the pics for today, thank you very much for joining us once again!  I hope you have a wonderful day, please stay safe and God bless!
