Insulator Adventures. Part 1.

Hi everyone!  It’s another beautiful day here at Steve’s Country.  And you know what that means.  You don’t?  Oh.  Rats.  I don’t know either and I was hoping you could tell me.  Sigh.  Oh well.  Oh, right.  Now I remember.🤔🙄  It means another crazy adventure with my dad and I.  Really, they were crazy at times.  And sometimes even worse.  But they were fun though.😀  And we used to have a great time remembering all these adventures and having a good laugh.😂🤣  Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures from this adventure so I am using some recent pictures instead.😁IMG_7518

So go ahead and laugh along with me as I remember another one of these great insulator hunting adventures.😃😂  Fall was a good time for our adventures, and that’s when most of them took place.😀🍁🍂  The amazing things that happened sometimes.  Many times we didn’t find much interesting, but the things that happened are what made the outings so memorable.  Like this one time we were trying to find a way in to the railway which was quite a distance from where we had to park the car. IMG_7531

That meant hiking a bit through the forest and this one time, after checking the map thoroughly, we figured we had the shortest route planned.  So it should only take maybe 15 minutes or so and then we would be at a new location.  That would be nice since the isolated area should produce some nice finds for the growing collection.  But of course things don’t always work out the way we planned sometimes.  Or maybe I should say, they seldom worked out the way we planned.  It seems there was always something that happened to turn an easy hike into a rather arduous trek.  And that would nearly wear us out before we reached our destination.IMG_5822

On this particular day that is exactly what happened.  But it started out as a fabulous sunny and warm day in late August.  So off we drove to the spot where we would begin this short and easy hike.  We arrived quickly enough and parked the car at the end of this little trail.  But, that is where easy stopped and problems began.   We grabbed our back packs and started through the brush which was no easy matter.  It was very thick brush all through that area and there was no way around it.  So we just started pushing our way through it.

This was about how thick the brush was we had to walk through.

As usual I was in the lead since I had planned this route on the map.  Unfortunately I had forgotten to bring the map with me and so this is where we are now.   You forgot the map?, asked dad.  Well, I did bring a map, but it’s the wrong one, I said.  BONEHEAD, said dad.  We just got started and already he is enjoying himself, I thought to myself.  I remember the way, however, I said, I studied that map a lot.  Right, said dad.  So off we went.IMG_7743

Watch the branches, I said.   Thwack!  AAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!  Guess he didn’t.  Dad’s hat went flying and got stuck in a tree.  I can get it, I said.  I grabbed a branch and reached up.  Sure enough I got it quite easily and I swung the branch down with dad’s hat attached to it.  Thwack!  AAAAA!!!!  Oops.  Guess I swung too hard.  Got dad right across the side of his head.  But amazingly his glasses didn’t fall off.  Thanks, said dad.  Not sure he really meant that.  Dad still wanted me to go first, which was amazing.

Hmm, guess I had better stop here for today.  But there is more to come in part 2.  I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

A Beautiful Day For Coffee!

Hello everyone on this beautiful autumn day!  The sun is shining so nicely.  It is warm, well, for us it is anyway.  The temp is already a nice 79F (26C) out there this afternoon.🌞  The birds and chipmunks were here early this morning for their breakfast.  It was nice to go outside without needing a jacket.😃IMG_8585  So I stayed out there for a while talking to the chipmunks.  They all heard when I dropped the peanuts on the deck.  All these little heads pop up over the edge of the deck.😄🐿🐿🐿🐿  Rusty and Skamper are still fighting for top chipmunk spot. While they chase each other, Checker and Chester get their peanuts.😂😹🐿🐿IMG_8602

I thought that today we would wait and have our coffee in the afternoon so it would be a bit warmer.  And today we will head back to Norman Park for our coffee chat.☕🌳🌲  We were here back in the spring, but things look a little different now that autumn is here.  Although down here by the lake the leaves are not changing color quite as fast as elsewhere around town. We have a couple picnic tables here under this little shelter and more close by under the pine trees.  And if you bring any kids along, there is a nice little area for them to play, plus a nice grassy area to run around. This is also a great park for bird life in spring and summer.  Even in the fall many species can be found here as they migrate south to warmer places for the winter.IMG_8590

It’s a great spot for smaller ground loving birds to stop for a day or two and pick up some food to give extra energy for their journey.  See over there?  In the brown grass.  It’s a beautiful little junco.  Okay, they are maybe not a colorful bird, but they are cute and very friendly. Oh, and look there.  Not far from the junco.  It’s a clay colored sparrow.  We usually only see them during spring migration and occasionally in the autumn.  So it really is a treat to see one.

And then we have the clay colored sparrow.IMG_2563

Even though this is a popular park all summer, it is still possible to find wildflowers.  Like the yellow avens over there.  A very pretty little flower.  And obviously liked by that small bee as well.IMG_4726

And with all the pine trees it just makes sense that there would also be red squirrels around too.  And sure enough.  There are 3 of them here today.  All of them busy gathering the pine cones that they had previously cut down.  They don’t often leave any behind.  They store them around in different safe locations where they will find them to eat throughout the winter.

Well look at that.  Right over here by that picnic table.  One of my favorite little flowers, a maiden pink.  Normally they grow in bunches of many flowers.  This one is all alone, but it is a bit late for them anyway, guess that’s why.  Sometimes wildflowers just don’t want to give up.

I suppose it’s time to say good bye once again.  It was just such a beautiful time here by the lake today.

Heading back up to the parking lot.

I knew this would be a good park for a warm autumn day.  I hope you also enjoyed it here as well.  Until next time, enjoy your day and God bless!
