The Investigators, Inc. The Case of Mystery. Chapter 12. Time to Rest.

Well, it has been a month now since our last adventure and getting everyone safely home again. Ashley, one of the girls that had gone along to protect my family was killed in that final free for all. That woman of the house stabbed her, which is why Storm attacked her. Everyone else was fine, though suffering a bit nonetheless from the stress of the whole ordeal.

We are sitting in the library again right now, our favorite room it seems, just talking about things. Sky was sitting on one side of me and Crystal on the other side. “That was sure good the way you yelled about ‘the wrath of the Kat’, Crystal,” said Sky, “it really messed up the attackers.” “Yes, that was perfect timing Kat, I mean, Crystal,” I added, “now you are getting me mixed up.”

Sky and Crystal laughed. Some of the girls came in just then with fresh donuts and coffee. Baldwin was at the front door 2 minutes later. “How does he always know when there are fresh donuts?” asked Sky. “Well, today I called him to let him know,” admitted Annelie. Everyone laughed. “Well, I am sure glad you have your memory back now anyway,” said Sky.

“Yes, that does feel good,” I said, “guess I just needed a good shock to get things unlocked. Too bad though.” “How is Muffin doing?” asked Baldwin. “She is back to normal mostly,” I said, “and the kittens are helping her with exercising. And Storm has been amazing, pulling Muffin around in that little wagon, carrying her up to her spot at the table, waiting on her paw and foot.”

Everyone laughed again. Mac and John finally came into the library, they had been waiting in the kitchen for the next fresh batch of donuts. John seems to have more lives than a cat. “I think you need to do some exercising too John,” said Sky, “that stomach of yours is getting bigger all the time.” “Well, I have not been able to do much lately,” he said, “but I will soon be back in shape.”

“Pear shape?” asked Angel. Everyone laughed again. “You just wait and see,” he said, “that will disappear soon.” “You just need to wrestle with Rock for a while,” said Annelie. “Sure,” said Rock, “I need a partner.” “You need about 4 partners, all at once,” said John, “but I will not be one of them.” Rock laughed so much he nearly choked on his donut.

Poor Kristina, she always wanted a cat and she was overjoyed when she could begin looking after MC. Now she is without a cat again. However, Kat, I mean Crystal, (I wish she would not mix me up like that) is going to take the cats to the cat shelter in the city and see if they can find one for Kristina. Mac, John and Rock will be going along too for protection.

I do not want any of the girls going along though or all of them will be bringing a cat home, whether it can talk or not. So no one is going to know about this trip, until afterward. I hope. Secrecy is key here so no one will know about it except those 4 that are going. And the cats, of course. They are the weak link in this chain, but hopefully I have bribed them sufficiently so they will keep quiet.

Our next business will be to track down Toledo. In reality, he is to blame for the death of MC and Ashley. If it was not for him and Carmen my family would not have needed to go into hiding and MC and Ashley would still be alive today. Sigh. Doing things without MC around is not going to be the same at all. But the kittens are both ready for joining in with our cases now and they were well trained by the 3 older cats.

Kyan and Cinnamon are full members of our team now, we need them anyway to replace Ashley and Vince. Kathee and Tamara have their new identities now and new names. Muffin picked the one for Kathee which she really likes. She is now Felina, the i is pronounced like an e. Tamara is now Tiffany. Each girl was given 3 names to choose from, though Kathee asked Muffin to choose the one she liked best.

The morning mail arrived next and in there a letter from a possible client. Some people own a castle and have had it in the family since around 1850, but now someone has come along with a title for the property that he says was stolen from his family at that time, by their family.

Now, their title deed has disappeared and they have no way to prove their ownership, so it looks like this man will win his case and they will be tossed out. They would like us to help find their title deed and prove this man has no claim to their castle. “Hmm, sounds like an interesting case,” I said. Everyone else agreed…

The End. But continuing with a new story “The Case of the Mysterious Castle”.

Thursday’s Thoughts, With Coffee. #17

Good morning on this cloudy and very wet Thursday. Time for a cup of coffee and join me with my birds today. We actually got some rain last night instead of that white stuff that I do not like to think about anymore. There are still piles of white here and there, but mostly it is all gone, finally. I hope no more shows up until next winter.

Anyway, it is cool out there. Even yesterday, although it was nice in the morning, once the clouds moved in around noon it became quite chilly. There are lots of birds around this morning and their bright colors are really making a very dull, foggy morning nice and bright. New birds are beginning to return from the south once again.

A male American Goldfinch changing from his winter coat to his summer coat.

Yesterday I heard a song sparrow singing, then later in the day there was a Tree Sparrow and a White-throated Sparrow out here with the juncos. There will be a lot more sparrows show up now, though because it is so late in the season, they will not likely stay around long.

There were 2 Fox Sparrows here earlier, but they have moved on already before I could get any pictures of them. I do have a lot from last year though. I am hoping the Rose-breasted Grosbeaks will show up again this year. I would still like to get some better pics of the female, I do not have many and they could be improved upon.

A beautiful male Purple Finch.

I think all of them are on cloudy, rainy days. It would be nice to get some of the female in the sun, even though she is not brightly colored. But pictures of birds in the sunlight are always better anyway. That is just my opinion however.

I like sunny pics, colors, even dull colors, are so much brighter and nicer looking. However, I will take pics on cloudy days, just to make sure I get a pic of a particular bird, otherwise I might lose out if I wait too long. And a pic on a cloudy day is better than no pic at all.

Well, I ended up getting a bit sidetracked this morning and it will not likely be morning when I post this. Sigh. Things happen. Muffin should be back tomorrow with her daily funnies to share with you all. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

Steve and Muffin.
