For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Meanwhile we had put up two wood crosses on the lawn close to the front door, with their names, date of birth and date of death, which was today. Kenny stopped when he saw them but Menton just laughed and continued inside. I doubt they will be laughing for very long, however. We cannot just go in there and kill them, that would be considered murder, but, we have a different plan.
I had called the Major who also knew the leader of the Lightning gang. His name is Ted Banter, so Major called him to let him know that Menton had talked, telling of his plans to kill Painter and his gang. So now Painter is planning a preemptive attack of his own to destroy the Lightning. “Menton has been cheating you and Painter,” said Major, “and he now has $25 million in the bank, which he is sending to a bank in Switzerland to keep it safe for now.
Then he plans to move up to Minneapolis for a year or so before moving to California.” “He will not get that far Major,” said Ted, “thanks for letting me know about this.” “Well, I cannot take the credit,” he replied, “a good friend of mine, that we call the Lieutenant, found out about this and informed me. He had been tracking down Menton to collect a debt from him.”
Major then gave Ted my phone number so he could call me if he wanted. He did, and I told him that Menton had just returned to his house. Ted must have been fairly close by as it only took him about 5 minutes to arrive. Now, back to Menton and Kenny just getting inside the house. “Dad! Look! It is you!” exclaimed Kenny, pointing to a body lying on the floor with those 3 bullet holes in his chest.
“It is just a trick Kenny, do not worry about a thing,” said Menton, “we will soon be on our way to Minneapolis and no one will be able to touch us again.” “I sure hope so,” said Kenny, “I am terrified by all that has been going on. I cannot wait to get out of here.” Menton was thinking he should have blamed both the boys so he could be rid of Kenny too. Still, there is that hidden spot under the house, he could kill Kenny and hide his body in there.
Since no one will be living in the house, his body would not likely be found for a long time. Then he could relax and enjoy things by himself. With Kenny around there would be no relaxing, he knew that for sure. Yeah, that is what he would do, the plan was perfect. He and Kenny came out into the living room after getting some coffee, but they both stopped and stared.
“Hello Menton, remember me?” said Ted, “we need to do some talking. But you better talk fast, I am a very impatient type man.” Ted had four men with him and all four had guns that Menton had sold to Ted. “What is going on here?” growled Menton, “you have no quarrel with me, I have always treated you fair.” “Oh yeah, that is true,” said Ted, “guess that is why you told Painter all about our plans. Guess that is why you have $25 million dollars in a bank account in Switzerland. That is my money Menton, and I want it back.”
“Who told you all that?” laughed Menton, “there was some guy here and stole all of your money from me. There was too many of them so I could not do anything. They even killed Willie, right in front of me too.” “You are lying Menton,” he said, “Painter killed Willie because you laid the blame on him for everything. I hate to change your plans on such short notice Menton, but that is what happens sometimes.”
Ted came back outside and then we heard gunshots. Ted’s men then came outside, got in their car and drove away. Mac, John and Vince went to check and found Menton and Kenny dead in the living room. Menton spent at least 25 years of his life putting together his fortune and never got a chance to enjoy any of it. He was a cold man who only cared about himself.
We left right then and from the airport we called the police to tell them about Menton and Kenny. Soon we were flying back to France and making plans for a big adoption ceremony for Carrie. Hopefully she will like her new parents. Now, we need some new names for Carrie and Tamara for their new identities. We will come up with a list of names and they can choose the one they want from the list.
When Carrie discovered who her new parents would be she jumped around so much I thought she would knock the jet off course! Meow, meow.=Me think she happy. Meow.=Yep, me thinking so too. Meowr.=Yep, I am agreeing too. Meowy.=Yep, me too. Meowi.=Yep, me too too. “Well dad, what do you think?” asked Sky. “Well mom, I am still letting it sink in,” I replied.
The End.

Good morning on this beautiful sunny and mild Wednesday! Grab a cup of coffee and sit with me on the deck for a few minutes. It really is quite nice, even though cool. But with the right jacket and a cup of hot coffee it is easy to enjoy sitting on the deck. Plus, it is directly in the sun right now, so it warms up a lot more on the deck than the surrounding yard.
There are dozens of juncos around now, hopping on the snow and searching through the areas where the ground is now showing, looking for those small seeds from weeds and grass that have fallen through the winter months. And right here I put out small seeds for them, so it brings them in closer for watching them and getting better pictures.

Male Pileated Woodpecker. He is about the size of a crow.
Unfortunately there is still a lot of snow back here, about a foot on the ground still. But there are smaller patches of ground beginning to show closer to the deck and walls of the apartment. The pileated woodpecker is coming regularly throughout the day now. He was just here for his breakfast, but I missed getting any pictures.
I did not notice him soon enough and just as I got my camera focused on him, the crows came along and scared him away. Sigh. Maybe next time. Chloe, one of the Boreal Chickadees, is still coming, but not as often now. I guess she has not found a mate yet. When I went out yesterday she met me right away and fluttered around me so I put out my hand and she landed. Then I put some peanut pieces on my hand, she grabbed one, chirped, and off she flew with it.

Mica, the Red Squirrel, taking a break after being chased by Jasper.
She came back for a second piece a little while later and flew away with that one across the street. That is where they come from. All of my gulls are back now. Sir George and Lady Pearl, Sir Henry and Lady Patricia. It is always so nice to see them in the spring. Not many people like gulls since they can be a bit noisy at times. But they are fun to have around.

Sir George, the Herring Gull.
All pictures today were taken yesterday. The temperature yesterday was a very nice 64F (18C) and it could reach that again today, then it cools off again, to the 30s and low 40s (about 2 to 5C), for the rest of the month. But I will enjoy the nice day and hopefully get some more pictures of the Pileated Woodpecker and others. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!
