For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning on this lovely sunny morning! There is a light wind blowing with a temp of 57F (14C). Those green leaves are glowing so wonderfully against the blue sky. A very nice later summer morning. Nights are cool now though days can still get warm, though probably not many hot days left in our summer. Last year summer ended the middle of August, which is not far off. I’m hoping for a nicer fall than last year, however, whatever we get we will.๐ The chipmunks have been timing their trips amazingly well this morning so, as the squirrel leaves, the chipmunks arrive. And for the most part the chipmunks have been very good at taking turns this morning. There have been a couple of “discussions”, but not as many as usual.
On one occasion Pocket was sitting on the bench waiting for more peanuts to be put out on the step and another Chester came along. Chester didn’t see Pocket on the bench. Pocket waited…then jumped on Chester and the chase was on! That’s when I put more peanuts out. I have to wait until they’re busy or not around since sometimes, like this morning, they get a little anxious and try to come inside. That’s not a good idea. Skamper made it inside this morning, but Muffin was eating at the time and I managed to get Skamper back outside before Muffin knew what was going on. Thankfully. One other time the squirrel had just left over the edge of the deck and a chipmunk just came up. I guess the squirrel didn’t like that and he came flying back up so fast he ran into a flower pot and the chipmunk got away easily. Otherwise it went very well this morning.
Well, our featured image at the top is one of my bright red geraniums with the sun shining on it early in the morning.
Then in the picture above is a very light pink hollyhock. My landlord’s hollyhocks are not doing well this year, her red and maroon colored hollyhocks didn’t grow at all, only some different shades of pink. I hope you all have a most wonderful day and God bless!

Yep, summers are short in the north, but it is all the way up to 66F now so at least I won’t need a jacket when I go for my walk.๐ถโโ๏ธ๐

Hasn’t the temperatures reached 25 C recently there in Canada ?

Yes, this month we have had it up to 32C, several times. But now we are entering late summer so temps start to cool off. We’ll be back to mid 20s for a few days starting tomorrow. That’s for our area.

Good morning Simon!
I’m sure Muffin was a good hunter in her early days when she had kittens to look after.๐ป๐ป That was after she ran away from the person who abused her. Now she is quite content to feast on cat food, my food and some bugs that come around.๐บ๐น๐

Yes, he was chasing a bit more yesterday but still not much. I noticed this morning he comes from across the street, so he probably won’t be around long, that’s a busy street.

Yes, whenever squirrels come from across the street they never live long, they just can’t win against the cars.

Steve, thanks for sharing the beauty of summer flowers. Does the peanut frenzy of the squirrels and the chipmunks become more intense in the late summer and early fall?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m glad you are enjoying it Richard! No, it really doesn’t change. The chipmunks start gathering for winter in spring, almost as soon as they come out of their hibernation and it’s steady for them until about mid to late September when they hide in their little homes until spring. And since squirrels are out and about all winter they don’t store food like the chipmunks, though they will put away some stockpiles close to where they live so that in the very cold weather they don’t need to go far from home for their food. But those stockpiles are really only for those emergency times.
Thanks so much, have a great day!๐๐บ
