Tuesday’s Tails #3.

Good morning everyone! It’s another beautiful, sunshiny, spring morning! And it’s so nice and calm. Wish I was at the lake right now for pictures, it would be fantastic. Even the river would be calm on a morning like this, mostly anyway. The river is never really calm though due to the current produced by the fast moving water. The lake is different and would give mirror like images on such a calm morning. Speaking of bears. Bert was back at 6:30 am. I had fed the birds an hour earlier and stayed out there for a while to enjoy my coffee and talk with Theodore for a bit.

Pine siskins in a birch tree.

I had only been back inside for a few minutes when Bert showed up. That bear is definitely getting bigger. He ate the whole batch of peanuts I had just put out for the chipmunks. Plus he ate all the sunflower seeds. I have decided to give up and stop feeding the birds. That’s a hard decision for me, they give a lot of joy plus opportunities to get pics that I would not otherwise get. But things are just not working out. I just bought some flowers for my deck flower garden, apparently Bert likes certain flowers, to eat. Then he stepped on others with those big feet of his, flattening them and the pots they were in. Sigh. Doesn’t look like my deck flower garden will be very nice either, but he left most of them alone, at least this time. Yesterday while I was out planting the flowers, Jasmine came and sat in the peanut box eating peanuts.

Another look at the family of Canada geese, mother in front, father at the back where he can watch his family best.

So I talked with her while planting. Then Freddie came on the deck. I told Freddie he could come up, but leave Jasmine alone, after all, he’s a lot bigger than her. Jasmine stuck her head out of the peanut box…then zoom! She ran at Freddie so fast and hit him hard, knocking him right off the deck! She chattered at him then went back to eating. Jasmine might be small, but she’s tough. I’m glad we’re friends. Then Freddie was here and Skamper came along. Freddie hates the chipmunks so the chase was on.

Skamper (bottom) and Pocket. It’s not often that two chipmunks get so close without fighting.

Skamper stayed in the lead, running in circles, going back and forth, more circles. Skamper ran around this small tree and Freddie didn’t quite make it running into the tree instead. That ended the chase and Freddie shook his head and came slowly back to the deck. You shouldn’t pick on the poor little chipmunks I told him. The way he looked at me! Skamper just sat on a rock watching Freddie leave the chase. He came back up and got some peanuts and left. Freddie chattered but didn’t chase this time. Maybe he’s learning. It’s a beautiful, sunshiny, spring morning. The air is so fresh, a robin is singing cheerfully. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

  1. That was not a good start, Bert really disappointed eating whole bunch of seeds ☹️ Bad Bert … He is really a bad bear, poor little plants, happy that he left most of them, it’s a good idea, with a heavy heart you should stop feeding them for a while until Bert find a good place for his food. Skamper and Pocket looks so similar, I’m surprised with your eyes finding the difference.πŸ˜‡. Have a lovely day..✨πŸ₯³

    • He came back again and trapped me far from the door on the end of the deck.🐻😳😲 He stomped and snorted loudly which is his way of saying he wants me out of there.🐻😬 I would, but he’s blocking the door!😬😲 He backed up a bit and I grabbed my bear spray and made it to the door slowly, then went inside quickly! No walking today I guess.πŸ€”πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ Sigh.πŸ™„ Can’t even be on my deck. Have a great evening Simon!πŸ˜€πŸ˜ΊπŸŒžβ˜•β˜•

      • I just have one door and windows,😁 but the windows are too high for me to jump from,😲 I would end up in the hospital for sure,😳 or bear food.πŸ€” Yep, the bear spray will be close to me from now on.πŸ˜¬πŸ™€πŸ€³

      • Wait! who is teasing you? I want you to hurt Bert, he is a bad bear that is threatening you, ☹️ you should call the cops πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘or get some help πŸ€”to scare away the bear 😲

      • No one will do anything because I was feeding the birds which attracted the bear.πŸ»πŸ™„ So it’s my fault he’s around.😳 So unless he actually attacks me or tries to get into my apartment I can’t call for help.πŸ™„ And there is no way to effectively scare him away for good. Maybe now that I’m not feeding the birds he will eventually go away.πŸ€” But it will likely take a long time.😟🐻

      • Yes, I hope so too. Perhaps once our lumber stores can open again I can do something to keep the feeders out of his reach. Won’t be easy though.

      • I’m sure you will think of something. and besides the problem with your lumber stores not being open, the price of lumber has skyrocketed!

  2. Good morning Steve! Thanks for sharing the amazing pictures and the adventures of your squirrels and chipmunks. πŸ˜β˜•οΈπŸŒžπŸΏ

Your decision is definitely understandable. It is not safe right now for you and the people in your area, therefore, precautions must be taken. I pray Bert and the other bears move to other food sources soon which are far away from you both and everyone in your community.

    • Hi Beverly! Glad to hear you enjoy my adventures with the critters, they are so much fun to have around. Guess I will lose them now though.
Bert came back at 11 this morning while I was out planting flowers, he was on one end of the deck, I was on the other, the door is in the middle. He stomped and snorted loudly which is his way of telling me to leave. Not easy to do when I have to move towards him. I did have my bear spray, but more importantly prayer which God heard and I safely got back inside. Then Bert came on the deck. looked for food, apparently there are several flowers that are on his menu as well. Sigh. Not safe to be on my deck either. So much for my walk today as well. Since Bert has found food here it will take weeks before he gives up and stops coming. I have seen that happen before, bears don’t give up easily. Please keep me in prayer about this. Thank you.

  3. Hi Steve! Yes, I always enjoy hearing your adventures with them. I am sorry you are going to lose them. I am so thankful you made it safely back to your apartment. Praying for a miracle, for your safety and quality of life. COVID-19 kept us all locked in and now Bert and the other bears…. I pray that he does give up soon. You all have such a short warm season, staying in and not having pretty flowers to look at or having daily walks to the beautiful lake is not good at all. You are most welcome. I will pray and add you to our prayer list at church. πŸ™

    • Yes, our summer is short and this could ruin the whole summer unfortunately, can’t even sit on the deck now with my morning coffee. Oh well, things could be worse. Thank you so much Beverly I appreciate that!πŸ˜€πŸ˜Ί
